Editor, the Advocate:
Concerning the Wes Bloomquist article (Advocate Sports Jan. 12) on opponent's feelings, I think at times a team should put the brakes on if they are ridiculously ahead, and if any team should realize that, you would think it would be one of our Christian-school teams.
I'm sorry, but an 82-16 score is a joke, and it reflects poorly on the winning team's character. There is absolutely no need to demoralize the opposing team, and it is easy to slow the game down by not taking as many shots and adjusting the defense.
Everyone has seen college and pro football teams slow the game down when they get way ahead, and if they can do it when there is big money on the line, why in the world can't a Christian school do the same thing? Doing this is not "stooping to the level of the competition," as the author put it, but simply adjusting your game so you can be a good winner.
