Editor, the Advocate:
Just want to touch on couple of topics.
First, don't expect miracles from the new president. His popularity will decline before the good he does prevails. I do believe he will do great things, though.
We should have never bailed out the Wall Street easy-money makers or the auto makers Big Three either. This economy is going to fall, and bailing out people is only prolonging it.
We will hit a depression and running more print on paper is only going to make it worst. If people could not see this coming several years ago, then they were either asleep or in denial.
Second, I grew up in a Union home. Unions were great during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Since that time, they have gotten greedy and expect way too much in wages. Auto workers on an assembly line make more than $30 an hour - please! Another $40 in benefits. Guess what? Between the overpaid CEOs and the unions, no wonder they are crying and we are paying more than $20,000 for a vehicle that cannot compete with foreign quality.
I say let them fall. Someone else will build cars. If the hamburger stand closes, someone else opens another one, right?
Third, we need to stop playing "God" around the world and let's take care of ourselves and buy "USA made" again, like we did back in the '50s, '60s and '70s, and our financial problems will take care of themselves. As for security of our country, we need to use our military at our borders and I am talking ground troops not push-button devices and we need military at our airports and more.
Fourth, we will never recover from this economic situation unless we do totally away with "welfare." Yes, I mean the kind going to the Lone Star cards. All there should be is "Total Disability" and "Social Security." Do away with unemployment, and you will be amazed at how people will find jobs. It's time we realize that changes of great magnitude have to be made here to protect our grandchildren's future!
My name is Ray, and I am mad over all this wasteful spending! We pay enough taxes, and let me look at the books!
