Every time that I see Reno 911 I can't help but think about Victoria police and sheriff departments. The only difference is that I think they would look a whole lot better if our police and deputies would wear shorts. I think that they would catch more criminals.

Christopher

I don't believe that any law enforcement official should engage in a high-speed chase to catch illegal immigrants because of the risk that it poses to the general public and to the immigrants themselves. There is no sense in injuring somebody just to catch illegal immigrants.

Rhonda

Victoria

Yes, I think the police should engage in high-speed police chases. You never know who is in that truck or who is in the vehicle and what they are carrying.

I was disappointed to see that Gary Moses was not included in the list of proposed names for the new schools in VISD. He has made such an impact, both in the educational field as well as serving our community. He is definitely an asset to Victoria.

Joann

Victoria

I think our new school should be named after Ted Reed.

Dorothy

Victoria

I think that the final list of names for the new high schools is the most ridiculous thing that I have ever heard. Using East and West is a sorry choice. We have streets and prominent people here in Victoria that we can name them after. Try again people; let's have a better choice.

Marie

Victoria

I think a good name for one of the new elementary schools would be Gary Moses.

Danny

Victoria

Leave the illegal immigrants alone if they did not rob a bank or convenience store. You are going to get some innocent people killed out there on the highway chasing illegal immigrants who are trying to go home.

J.J.

I would like to see a Tony Roma's here in Victoria.

I do know some who have been laid off. We have three family members who were laid off at the time. They worked at the plant.

Mary

Victoria

Yes, I do know someone who has been laid off - my daughter in California. She is in Texas now looking for a job.

Elaine

Victoria

In regards to Linda Campbell's article in the paper on Jan. 11: She had driven by a packed 30 acres of parking outside a casino in Texas. I would like to know where that casino was. It must have been an 8-liner (place) that she went by. I have never heard of a casino in Texas.

For once I agree with an editorial from the Advocate staff.

This one being on DWI checkpoints.

A few readers are whining about Gestapo tactics and the loss of their rights.

Driving is not a right, it is a privilege, and privileges may be curtailed or amended.

I suggest the complainers are facing a DWI driver each time that they look in the mirror.

These are the people who believe that it is OK to drive because "I've only had a couple."

David

I agree with Ray on Jan. 11 about teen pregnancies.

Either have both names on the birth certificate or no welfare for the mother.

And daddy, you should pay support for 18 years. Why not? OK readers, how many agree?

Judy

Victoria

I am calling about the online poll. I believe that the youth already do have a curfew.

For weeknights, I believe that it is midnight and weekends it is one or two unless they are coming to or from work or a church event.

There used to be a curfew; I didn't know if it was put down. I know having four teenagers, I thought there was a curfew.

Mary

Victoria

Should Victoria County have a curfew for youth?

Yes. A curfew for youth will decrease crime, gang activity and save their own derrieres from criminal records.
