Editor, the Advocate:

I am thrilled and saddened at the same time. I'm thrilled by the fact that there were no major injuries or deaths following the crash of the US Airways plane in the Hudson River.

But, at the same time, I'm saddened by the fact that all the credit went to the pilot and rescuers. Don't get me wrong. I think the pilot did a fantastic job of landing the plane on the water and the rescuers were quick to get to the plane.

However, it was God and God alone that kept the plane from breaking up. It was by the grace of God alone that no one died or was seriously injured.

When are people going to acknowledge God's intervention in our lives? In John 15:5 Jesus said "Without Me, you can do nothing" and in Philippians 4:13, the Apostle Paul said "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

  • This is getting better by the day.Was it birds that downed the plane, or was it an engine that has been worked on in the recent past? Stay posted to the lasted updates,,as they investigate this rare occurance. A flock of birds downing a Huge airplane with enigines turning at Very high rpms. Could it be that man had something to do with the Downing of this plane? Was it just Luck that the passengers All survived? Once again I have to agree that God had a hand in the survival rate of this plane crash.

  • Mr Bob Edwards,
I would just like to say that your article was very good. I'm not even paying any attention to these other comments that followed mine. I did'nt even look to see what the others had to say. My notepads covering up their idiodic comments. I'm sure they're throwing stones and asking dumb*** questions. I did see the word WHY,,,but hey don't ask me,,you all seem to have All the answers,, WHY ask a so called Bible banger? Just to let you know,,not that you care, I just now returned from a funeral,,,and Nope they were not reading quotes from a Spiderman comic book.

  • Proveallthings...Why did God put that gaggle of birds in the path of the Airbus? Did he do it to get the attention of the pilot and the passengers? Did he doom the plane and save the passengers to make a point? Just wondering.

  • God Intervenes when He choses. Scientist remained baffled. Will not scientist be baffled when More things start to happen,,will they continue to dig Deep into the Science book, only to find No answers?. The answers are already written, its up to Humans to chose wether to read them,,,or not. And Sugar, I honestly can't believe what you wrote,,,You won't care,,You will be dead.I do think that your family will care,,,so sometimes,Yes, we do need to think of others,,not just ourselves. And your right,,not everyone will have a funeral,,,but all must meet death,,funeral or no funeral. And no not everyone believes the same, this is Very true also. Many people observe Christmas and dont believe in Christ. So why observe a day that has the word Christ in it? Why hide eggs on Easter and do all the other Traditional things that are done on that day. If you dont believe,,then why observe? For the Fun of it,,,for the Enjoyment and Pleasure?. I for one do not observe these days,,for I find no where in my teachings that I'm suppose to. But all that is beside the point,,,and as I said, I've seen so many turn from being a non believer to a believer,,for they feared what was happening. Many times it takes the instillment of fear to Open ones eyes. But believe as you wish and I'll not knock your believes. But I do get tired of so many knocking My believes,,such as TOS. What I have copied and put next,,I find very interesting, and thought TOS may have some answers to why these people are baffled.: Reports are coming in of 250 small earthquakes in Yellowstone and these small temblors are baffling to scientists
Scientists baffled by swarm of quakes in Ore. ... Scientists don't know exactly what the earthquakes mean.
Scientists baffled by unusual swarm of hundreds of earthquakes
Well I'm not baffled,,why should I be,,for it is written,,,so it will be done. Now if your walking down the road and ya pass by an old building built of bricks,,and one of the bricks fall and hit You on the head,,and kill ya. Was that God?, No...If the building was old and falling down,,Man should have torn it down. So No, God did'nt do the killing in this story,,man did. Now,,lets say a very young child has been diagnosed with cancer,,and a prayer goes out from a Faithful believer, and the child becomes healed overnight. Was that just a coincident? I can't see how it could be, for we know how cancer works. Taken from the Book:For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.
God did Not cause the plane accident, God did not give us wings to fly,Man did,,but He did have a play in the outcome. Believe as you wish. And try to knock me down,,and call me a Biblebanger, for as I see it, Your name calling and throwing of stones only makes me stronger. And Yes ,God Had a hand in landing the Plane. God helped the Pilot, for I'm sure the pilot was doing alot of praying at the time.

  • proveallthings - thanks for "proving" my point. My point in the first place was....that these catastrophes (and the good things too) are manmade events. By your saying who taught the pilots to fly, it just reinforces my assertion that it was MAN (not relevant to this discussion what nationality), not GOD who was responsible. I was trying to impart that to the writer of the letter - that if he is to give God credit for a "miracle" then he must also blame God for all the tragedy. COMPRENDE?

As for your other questions, I cannot speak for Omniscience, only myself....who knows what kind of reaction one might have to a terminal diagnosis? That is of a highly personal and individual nature. One must believe there is a God first in order to ask him to save oneself, mustn't one?

Will they be reading "Popular Science" at the True one's funeral? Dunno, but can't imagine he/she will much care one way or another, as he/she will be DEAD. Will they read it at mine? I'm not going to have one. I am donating my body to science, and when the medical students are through doing all they need to do, they can dispose of it as they wish. I won't care; I will be DEAD. Don't assume all people are going to have a funeral. Not everyone thinks the same or believes in the same thing. I feel this makes our world more interesting, don't you?

I hope this answers your questions.

  • I Laugh as I read comments like as TRUEONISCIENCE put it,,Biblebangers. God does intervene wether you want to believe it or not. This one question I'd like to ask TOS and SM. Lets say a doctor gives you 2 months to live,,whatcha gonna do? You gonna break out the daily news and start reading it,,or will you say Please God Help Me!....Well through my experiences with non believers,,,when that time comes,,and their drawing their last final breathes,,they turn to God. Sad to say that I've had to watch many die,,and many Were non believers,, but as the time drew closer and closer,,99% turned to God. For it Is our only hope,,if we don't believe,,,then how meaningless is that hole where we All must go. I question not God's actions,,but have witnessed many miracles with my own eyes. I'm No HolyRoller so to speak,,,and I dont even attend a church...But I do believe in a higher power,,who is which I see as God. Trueomniscience,,,will they be reading a version of Popular Science at your funeral,,,or will it be the Bible?...We all have the freedom to believe what we chose to believe,,,but I Do believe that we should have Some kind of belief. Are we just Here,,if so,,Why?. Sugarmag.,,,who taught these pilots how to fly,,was it not an American? So who is Really to blame for the planes flying into the twin towers? I study the Bible daily and enjoy what I read. As I watch America slowly fall apart I need not wonder Why its doing so,,,for I see that it is because God is slowly being taken out of the picture. And we wonder Why wwe're in such a fix that we are in today... Ok,,you all can start throwing stones now.

  • So, I suppose, Mr. Edwards, that all the other airliners that have crashed with multiple fatalities were also the result of God's intervention? How about those planes that hit the World Trade Towers? Or the numerous other planes that have been hijacked? What about the trains and buses that have crashed the world over during the past several decades? Are all these the result of God's doing? If so, why would he do such a thing? If you are to give God credit for saving these people, you must also credit him with the deaths of others. Why are some blessed by the "grace of God" and others are not?
Or are these catastophes a result of an absence of God? Are you saying that accidents where people die happen because God did not intervene? Or that the passengers, or even the vessel itself, was "Godless"? I cannot follow this logic.
These tragedies are manmade, pure and simple. Survivors become such by their own hand and/or by the hand of other fellow humans.
