Before bid proposals go out for the new auditorium and natatorium - an indoor competition swimming pool - the SHW Group will have to meet with the Victoria board of trustees to work out some logistics.

Those logistics, being an attempt to get the auditorium project back within budget.

Currently, the auditorium project is six percent over budget, but Rayce G. Boyter, AIA principal for SHW Group, said with every month that passes costs are being cut.

"When the schools went up for bid, there was a one percent inflation increase each month," he said. "Now we are seeing a decrease which may help us get back within budget."

Boyter addressed the school board at the Thursday meeting when a design of the natatorium was released. The projects would take about 18 months to complete, he said.

"We are still working on ways to reduce costs," Ron Leach, chief operations officer for the district, said.

SHW and Leach have also included alternate features to the projects. If the projects are going to go over budget, then they will be able to take off some of the alternate features.

"The parking lot that we have located to the right of the auditorium can be removed if need be," Leach said.

Because the parking lot is an alternate, it can be added to the bid proposal or taken out of the proposal, he said.

"When we are ready to take bid proposals we will include the alternates," Leach said.

Some of the areas in the auditorium design are also being refined and have been a challenge, Boyter said.

SHW has been working on refining the back section of the auditorium, Diane Boyett, the district's communication specialist, said.

The board has asked to meet with SHW to see if they can have the bid proposals ready before summer, as originally proposed by SHW at the meeting.

The district will not know if they are over budget until they go for bid proposals, Leach said.
