Janet Lyon will step down as the executive director of the Victoria County United Way effective Thursday, Jan. 29, according to a news release from the organization.

Lyon, who has led the agency since October 2005, will pursue other opportunities in the private sector, according to the news release.

"The board is grateful for Lyon's service and dedication to the organization," said Robby Burdge, board president. "We will miss her and wish her well."

Lyon declined to comment further, saying that the news release was accurate and well written.

Lyon helped launch three successful United Way campaigns and raised community awareness of the local chapter.

The local United Way has reached 94 percent of its most recent campaign goal of $888,000, and Burdge said he is hopeful the goal will be met.

A search for her replacement will begin soon, Burdge said. The board will meet Wednesday to discuss the future leadership and this year's allocations.
