President-elect Barack Obama is set to become the 44th president of the United States Tuesday afternoon.
During his inauguration, he will address the nation. Residents at Victoria Public Library talked to ranging reporter, Madeline Lewis, before the address Tuesday about what they would like to hear from the new president.
Q: What would you like to hear from President Obama during his inaugural address?
A: Anyone can say anything, but I want them to show me. All that stuff hes talked about sounds good, but I want to see what hes going to do when hes president.
Manuel Luna, self-employed from Victoria
A: I think that he should make a point that today is a historic day for America. Were growing. Not too long ago, this never would have happened.
John Perez, photographer from Goliad
A: About how hes going to fix the economy and how hell make things better in the world and the United States.
Amanda Cisneros, student from Victoria

The law in some states used to designate a person as "negro" if they were far less than half African American.

Betty007.You are one ingornate person. You are apart of the problem in this society. You need to sit down, shut up, and accept the fact.
BIGJ----Whereever did you get the word "ingornate"? What is this word? Did you mean "ignorant"? If you did, then who is the "ignorant" one.
January 20, 2009 at 1:59 p.m.I want to hear him say, "I am bi-racial, not black, my mother is white". He is only half-black, so he is NOT the first black president. So, what is going to happen when a real black person becomes president? Then this person could truly say," I am the first black president".
And, the rest will have to be shown, not said, for me to believe it will get better. This is all about race, so I have not heard much I believe.
