Just as people in all parts of the world watched on Tuesday, students and residents in Victoria, too, were transfixed on the history being made in America. And the inauguration of the first black president of the United States will be their history, our history, all our years.
A new era in the United States begins with what President Barack Obama said: "Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and begin the work again of remaking America."
The encouraging message was clear that to overcome all of America's woes we must do the kind of hard work Americans have endured and embraced in past times of difficulty. And we have always endured, but it will not be, and has not been, easy.
A concerted effort and determination to emerge from the mire will be necessary. A change of tone will be needed: No more divided aisles and bitter, disrespectful attitudes; instead, we should work together to become again the greatest country on Earth.
This was the message to all Americans and the world as millions on the Washington, D.C. mall applauded the new president's words. We applaud the new president's positive prowess to make America great again for Americans and the inhabitants of the world over.
