Playing Converse Judson at home proved to be no easier than on the road for the Memorial Lady Vipers.

"We really had a problem stopping their post," said Memorial senior Amber Flowers after the Lady Vipers took a 70-55 District 27-5A loss to the Lady Rockets on Tuesday. "We needed to run more and stop passes into their post players. We are quicker than them, but their size got us."

The Lady Vipers dropped their second game of the season to Judson after opening district with a 66-35 loss in Converse in mid-December. Memorial (18-10, 4-4) finished the game shooting 17-for-43 from the field, while Judson picked up 18 offensive rebounds and forced 21 Lady Viper turnovers.

Ciara McLee and Cheyenne Miller dominated the paint for the Lady Rockets (15-11, 6-2) and combined for 36 points. McLee led Judson with 23 points on 8 of 14 shooting, while Miller came off the bench to score 13.

"There are a lot of things that we could have done better, but we never gave up," Memorial head coach Sandra Jimenez said. "I was really proud of our effort throughout the game. When you play a team like Judson you have to play hard, but you also have to have things go your way."

Krysta Martinez missed her first five shots in the game, but bounced back to lead the Lady Vipers with 16 points. The junior scored eight points off free throws and finished the game with four straight baskets. Kaelynn Reyes added 12 points, including scoring the first five points of the game for Memorial which gave the Lady Vipers their only lead of the game at 5-2. Reyes led the team with four assists and fours steals.

Amy Torres finished with 11 points for Memorial, while Flowers contributed nine in the loss.

Now the attention turns to San Antonio East Central for the Lady Vipers. Memorial travels to face the Lady Hornets at 7:30 p.m. in San Antonio on Friday. The Lady Vipers took the first game between the two school 67-55 at the MHS senior campus gym.

"We have to concentrate on going to East Central and taking care of business on the road," Jimenez said. "We came out with the wins the first time, but we can't come out flat against them and expect to come out with a win. We are going to have to win our games on the road."
