The Matagorda Regional Medical Center scheduled to open late summer of 2009 will have beautiful trees awaiting patients and visitors as they drive onto the campus thanks to a generous donation by a local family. Scott and Pam Evans, owners of Rancho Encino Tree Farm in Bay City have committed to donating a variety of trees valued at $51,000. According to Scott Evans, “We are proud to be a part of the development of the new medical center campus. We have already met with the landscape architect to discuss a variety of trees and what will work best here in our climate to assure that a hundred years from now there will still be trees.” The Evans family has chosen the naming rights for the ICU/Surgery Waiting Room at the new Matagorda Regional Medical Center. “Both our families have spent hours upon hours in the current ICU waiting room as well as other hospitals wanting to be close to our loved ones. It is something that is very close to our hearts. We want to honor and remember our mothers by naming the waiting room after both of them. Pam’s mother, the late Jean Goodman and my mother Ann Evans,” stated Scott Evans. In addition to the naming rights, the Evans family will adopt the ICU/Surgery waiting room and take a special interest in its furnishings and upkeep. “We want to help make it cozy, comfortable and welcoming. Families end up spending long hours waiting for their loved one. We want to make a difference and help those who are worried, stressed and afraid,” said Scott. “Reading materials, flowers, art work or anything else we can think of to promote a safe and comfortable environment.” Steve Smith, CEO Matagorda County Hospital District said, “On behalf of the entire Matagorda General Hospital team, we thank Scott and Pam for their generosity and support. It is exciting to see the community take such pride in the new hospital and campus, but even more importantly, the desire to keep healthcare local. We look forward to growing this partnership.” • Submitted by: Delores Cox, Director of Marketing/Business Development at Matagorda County Hospital District.
