The Palacios Sharkettes soccer team looks to be competitive in new District 46-4A this season. Palacios finished last season in District 24-4A with a 3-14-1 record. The new district doesn’t have the Rosenberg schools: Seven Lakes, Lamar Consolidated, Foster and Terry. The new district teams with Palacios are Angleton, Brazosport, Columbia, El Campo and Bay City. “It looks promising for us to clinch one of the four playoff spots, but it won’t be easy. But the opportunity is there,” said Palacios Sharkettes head coach Amy Morales. “As for beating the Bay City Ladycats, anything is possible if you have the right mindset and go into something with determination.” The team’s strengths are the players work well together and the key players holding the defense together, Morales said. The weakness for the Sharkettes is a young defense, young midfield and a new goalie for the team. Returning starters and key players for the team are seniors Jessica Ayala, Sandra Garcia, Lacey Warner, Perla Zamora, Amairani Zumaya and junior goalie Wendi Maldonado. Other team members are Carmen Rios, Amanda Scantlen, Gloria Mata, Brenda Perez, Jessica Ramon, Irasema Sifuentes, Marian Medrano, Kristy Gullien and Edith Ramos. The assistant coach for the team is Jeri Garcia.
