Ladycats cage Lady Falcons The Bay City Ladycats made it two district wins in a row as the caged the Foster Lady Falcons 53-33 on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Bay City. The Ladycats improved to 16-8 for the season and 2-1 in District 23-4A. Bay City roared past Foster in the first half 25-8 and held off the Lady Falcons in the second half for the win. Junior Devan Price led the way in scoring for Bay City with 13 points, four assists, three steals and three rebounds followed by senior Hailey Appling with 13 points, four rebounds, five assists and a steal. Freshman Andrea Floyd scored 10 points and had four steals, two rebounds and two assists followed by sophomore Ashley Grice with eight points, and seven rebounds. Senior Alyssa Dibbern led the team in rebounding with eight and also scored four points in the win. Tigers edge Danbury for first District win The Tidehaven Tigers edged the Danbury Panthers 38-36 for their first win in District 29-2A on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at El Maton. Out standing players on offense were Ivan Wade and Demetri Tsika and defensive player was Colt Clontz. “The kids have been through a lot but they fought through some adverse situations and at this time they made some very good plays to win the game,” said Tidehaven Tigers head coach Shaun Woods. “This is a great group of kids and they are working hard to get better each game.” Lady Bulldogs tame Tigerettes The Hitchcock Lady Bulldogs tamed the Tidehaven Lady Bulldogs 60-17 on Friday, Jan. 16 at Hitchcock. Tidehaven dropped to 1-2 in District 29-2A. Tidehaven trialed 8-4 after the first quarter and 16-11 at the half but the Lady Bulldogs out scored Tidehaven 44 –6 in the second half for the victory. “After a closely fought first half, the athleticism of Hitchcock turned the game into a rout as they scored 44 points,” said Tidehaven Tigerettes head coach John Matthys. “We played extremely well in the first half, keeping the tempo slowed down but lost our focus after halftime and the game got out of hand.” Leading scorers for Tidehaven were Emily Tsika and Shawnette Woods with six points. Ladycats edge Lady Mustangs Bay City Ladycats edged the Lamar Consolidated Lady Mustangs 51-44 on Friday for their first district win. Bay City improved to 15-8 for the season and 1-1 in District 23-4A while the Lady Mustangs dropped to 2-1 in district. The Ladycats led at the half 23-17 and held even with Lamar in the second half for the win. Junior Devan Price led the Ladycats in scoring with 19 points four rebounds and four assists. Price also had three 3-pointers. Senior Alyssa Dibbern led the team in rebounds with 11 and also had three steals. Other top scorers were freshman Andrea Mayberry with seven points, three steals, four rebounds and four assists and sophomore Ashley Grice with seven points, and one steal. Edna lassos Sharkettes The Edna Cowgirls lassoed the Palacios Sharkettes 56-47 on Friday, Jan. 16. Palacios dropped to 1-2 in District 29-2A and 13-9 for the season. Christen Sandoval led the Sharkettes in scoring with 16 points followed by Jenna Treybig with 12 points. “We played very well with a lot of intensity and just came up short,” said Palacios Sharkettes head coach Aaron Wollam. “I was proud of our effort and a big difference in the game was free-throw shooting in the second half. They made 17 out of 20 and we hit 8 out of 14.
