Some counties in the Crossroads area may get funding from the federal government to pay for environmental projects on their coasts, according to a story published Thursday morning in the Victoria Advocate.

One proposed study from Calhoun County would look at putting the brakes on sand erosion around Lighthouse Beach.

Ranging Reporter, Madeline Lewis, spoke to residents at Hastings Books, Music & Video store Thursday morning about protecting the shoreline.

Q: What do you think should be done to protect our beaches?

A: “Maybe we should get more people to patrol them than we do now. I’m sure if there’s someone watching then people won’t feel like they can throw things out or litter.”

Ellen Vallejo, student from Edna

A: “I would say just enforcement of existing laws and maybe working with Mexico and offshore oil rigs and boats to reduce pollution.”

Daniel Goris, customer service representative from Victoria
