A: "I think if it's a totally controlled situation and you can have an adequate way to put it out, I think it's fine. Burning household trash on the ground, I don't think that's a good idea. They ought to be ticketed during a burn ban only."

Kevin Miller, sales engineer from Victoria

A: "I would be positive about that. I'm worried right now about what I've read about the grass fires. Of course, any kind of ticket has to be done fairly. I think we have to be concerned here about fires until it starts to rain."

Janice Jones, nursing home administrator from Victoria

A: "I guess they should be ticketed because if there is a burn ban they shouldn't burn anything because it could have bigger consequences than they think."

Amber Gonzales, student from Victoria

A: "Yes. You are putting everyone around you, even your friends and family, in danger."

Sarah Davis, student from Victoria

  • I agree with Mr. Easton -- if you are going to fine someone for violating the burn ban, then make sure it's more than just a "nuisence" fine! Hit 'em where it hurts!

There is a serious risk of fires getting out of control in our area because of no rain. I won't even light my bbq pit for fear of fire.

  • Personally, I believe that the fine is to small. Have we not all read about the Chicago fire, the California/Florida fires, and etc. It does not take much for an fire to become out of control, it a real treat to property and lives.
