Q: Please give a brief history of the church.

A: In May 1950, Baptists in Point Comfort began meeting in a tent. A little more than a year later, in June 1951, a wood-framed building was dedicated, and Point Comfort Baptist Church was started.

More buildings were added in 1953 and 1960, and a new sanctuary was built in 1980.

In the history of the church, there have been 10 pastors.

In 1983, mission work began in the fellowship hall with the Taiwanese. This mission church grew to the point that in 2004 they built their own building in Port Lavaca.

The Taiwanese started their own church, known as Comfort Community Church, with about 110 worshippers.

Q: What activities do you have through the week?

A: We have Bible counseling for addictions, marital problems, etc. anytime during the week by appointment, visitation outreach for members and newcomers to the town, women's missionary ministry at 9:30 a.m. on the first and third Wednesdays, and vacation Bible school in the summer for children.

Q: What projects are you working on?

A: We are starting the Agape House to be open to missionaries at home on leave visiting ministry groups to have a place to stay.

Q: How are you involved in the community?

A: We have visitation outreach to new residents. We help to start and attend neighborhood watch programs. We support and are on the board of Calhoun County Community Ministries. We also do Prison Fellowship Ministries. We participate in Angel Tree at Christmas time and provide Bible counseling to anyone free of charge.

Q: Is there anything else you'd like to share?

A: Our purpose: Let Jesus minister his healing power to all that come our way. We are a spiritual lighthouse, a spiritual hospital.
