Repeating as district champions was lost a long time ago, but hopes of returning to the playoffs may have ended on Thursday for St. Joseph.

The Flyers fell for the second time this week, dropping a 51-37 TAPPS 3-4A contest at home to San Antonio TMI.

"They were playing good defense and limited our offense in getting shots," St. Joseph guard Ryan Valdez said. "They were creating a lot of struggles for us that we didn't do anything about."

The loss puts the Flyers (10-19) at 3-7 in district play, while the Panthers improve their TAPPS 3-5A record to 6-4. St. Joseph began the week with a 55-51 loss to the San Marcos Baptist Academy Bears.

"We stifled ourselves," St. Joseph head coach Stan Platz said. "We had too many turnovers, too many missed shots inside and basically we didn't do all the fundamentals. We're not doing the things to win right now."

Kier Wells led the Flyers with 14 points, while Clark Pantel scored 11. Pantel hit three 3-pointers, including one to give the Flyers a 30-29 lead late in the third quarter. St. Joseph was outscored 22-7 from there to end the game.

The Flyers return to action on Tuesday against Giddings State School at the St. Joseph gym. St. Joseph has five games remaining and now knows another loss will eliminate them from any possibility of the playoffs.

"It's going to be tough," Platz said. "We have to win out basically to have a chance. There was a chance if we won but it didn't work out that way."

Shawn Myers and Michael Towil led the Panthers with 17 points, while Josh Stewart scored 14 in the win.
