CUERO - Firefighters were still dousing hot spots with water at the scene of a house fire just outside of Cuero about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the DeWitt County Sheriff's Office.

Two mobile homes sitting side by side at 262 Von Haefen Road, off U.S. Highway 87 north near Cuero, were completely engulfed by flames when the Cuero Fire Department arrived at 6:18 p.m.

A resident of the home suffered burns from the fire and was taken to the burn unit at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

A neighbor, suffering from smoke inhalation, was taken to Cuero Community Hospital by ambulance, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office would not release any name Sunday.

The cause of the fire was still being investigated.
