At least three TEA parties will be held in the Crossroads region just in time for July 4.
Victoria, Calhoun and DeWitt counties are slated to have Taxed Enough Already parties to help the community raise its voice on government concerns that may affect them.
Victoria County's TEA Party 2.0 will be Thursday with Congressman Ron Paul as the keynote speaker, said Mike Cloud, president of the Victoria County Young Republicans.
"He wanted to be here so much that he rearranged his schedule and made room to be able to stop by," Cloud said. "I know some of the issues are big to his heart."
The first TEA Party in the county was on April 15 and brought 800 to 900 people, he said. He hopes about the number of people attend Thursday's event.
A voter registration booth and several other information booths for those interested in playing a more active political role will be available, he said.
"It's a connection point for people to find out information about organizations in the area that they can connect with," he said. "People are rallying and their voice is getting louder and louder and it's not going away."
The Victoria County Young Republicans, Campaign for Liberty, Strong Families of Victoria and other organizations will be at the event, he said.
Other officials are scheduled to be in attendance as well as people who will speak about problems like healthcare, taxes and other policies that may be affecting them.
Members of the crowd who wish to speak will be allowed to do so.
"It's our duty as Americans to say something about it and do something about it," he said.
Calhoun County will also give the public a chance to unite as Americans not by political affiliation said Connie Hunt, Calhoun County TEA party sponsor.
"People are lining up on both sides to have their chance to have their voices heard," she said. "They don't feel they have any representation at all."
About 375 people attended Calhoun County's last TEA Party on April 15, she said. This time they hope to have 500 attendees.
Cuero will also host its second TEA party, said Peter Hannan, organizer.
"When these people gather and they voice their opinion, every single one of them voiced their opinion with respect for other people," he said.
With little advertisement and little preparation time, Hannan said 120 people attended the April 15 party but he has no idea what to expect on Saturday.
Hannan said they will also discuss hot topics like energy and health care reform.
"There is so many issues," he said. "We'll see if this thing has legs. It's becoming a movement across the nation."

Same ole arguement as last time!! Listen-Guys once again if you didn't get it the first time around THIS IS NOT ABOUT OBAMA!! It is government in general and our freedoms as American citizens. Our freedoms that are slowly being taken away. Call us what you want but do not get the assumption that this is an i hate obama party because you are wrong. You guys always bring up well where were you 8 years of BUsh. I was out of high school without a care in the world to even notice what was happening. I woke up slowly after 9/11 and have been researching and paying attention. Maybe that is what we should all start doing paying attention! John - I think your idea and what you are going to do is great!
July 2, 2009 at 8:53 a.m.On “Twitter”, I’m connecting the Tea Party protest with the Iran and Honduras situations.
In regards to Iran, both seek “empowered citizen representation”; whether the argument is taxation without representation or false representation, both are the disempowerment of citizen’s rights. Through these occurrences Muslims can see the importance of supporting the constitution, and demanding that their representatives abide by it. The Constitution is the rule of law that ensures protection for all citizens from an unjust and oppressive government. This is the document that all military service men and women are sworn to defend the rights of American Citizens by, from enemies foreign or “domestic”.
The right to peaceful assembly, which Tea Party protestors are fortunate to have, is afforded under the Constitution. In Honduras, the president attempted to undermine their constitution, which caused the congress and later the courts of Honduras to request his removal at the hands of their military. Their military took action to defend their constitution, as ours would.
There is room for a difference of opinion, but my actions were to generate a broader awareness. By combining these three topics I attempted to generate greater support for all three issues. I’ve even begun to call it the “Green Tea Revolution”, to illustrate that Justice, adherence to Constitutional law, and taxation without representation are universal.
Not since the 60’s has the call to “Democracy” been needed, in more earnest! Democratic government is not guaranteed by words on paper but a life in service to its preservation, by “freemen”.
“We do these things not out of any reward found within this world, but the one in our hearts and minds knowing that we are FREE, that is the calling of a patriot” - john
July 2, 2009 at 8:43 a.m.Oh Lord, so this means:
The Fiscal Responsible Republican Party, The Patriot Act Campaign for Liberty and The Family Values Strong Families bunch expect to lead by example. And Republican NC Gov. Mark Sanford will speak on Family Values.
Where were you for EIGHT years while W sent this country down the toilet?
July 2, 2009 at 7:48 a.m.You people are joke and the election of your kind by the likes of Al Franken proves it.
I plan to attend this tea party as an expression of my feelings about where our country is headed. I feel that big government is taking away my freedom and denying future generations the opportunity to be successful. These are the things that have made our country great in the past. Current massive spending by the federal government has created debt we can not pay and even worse is the issuance of treasury notes by the Federal Reserve and subsequent purchase of the same by the Federal Reserve. This creates new money and taxes our savings thru inflation.
July 2, 2009 at 7:31 a.m.Both political parties have abused our freedom and opportunity. The Tea Parties are the only way I know to express my unhappiness.
So, are they going to call themselves "Teabaggers" again?
