July 13 - A dramatic example of instant cooperation among police, medical and civilian principals developed Saturday afternoon when an emergency delivery of surgical gas was made from Victoria to Ganado. When the Welders Equipment Co. of Victoria received an urgent call from a Ganado hospital for a supply of cycio-propane - a concentrated anesthetic used only in deep surgery - driver Don Caraway was temporarily stymied. He had the gas, but no tank in which to deliver it. A phone call to Citizens Memorial Hospital, however, soon remedied that, and the tank was dispatched to the equipment company while Caraway phoned the radio dispatcher at the sheriff's office asking for an escort. Highway Patrolman Fred Clements, cruising on the Houston Highway, was contacted by radio and waited beside the road until Caraway appeared. Then he escorted the car with the vital gas directly to the door of the Ganado hospital in time for the emergency operation.
