OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Four workers at American Heart Association offices in Tulsa and Oklahoma City have been laid off as part of staff reductions.
Stephanie Elsea with affiliate headquarters in Austin, Texas, says both Oklahoma offices lost two employees each. Across the region, which includes Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and New Mexico, 26 people were laid off.
Elsea says the sagging economy has resulted in a projected $4.5 million budget shortfall for the affiliate for the fiscal year that started July 1. The affiliate had a $6.7 million shortfall during the just-completed fiscal year.
She says that the association's recent fundraising totals also have been down.
The Oklahoma City office now will have 15 employees, while the Tulsa office willhave 12.
The AHA is based in Dallas.
