More than 300 members of the Texas Junior Catholic Daughters of the Americas recently attended the 23rd Biennial JCDA State Convention in Houston.
The theme of the Convention was "Princesses of Christ."
The JCDA 2007-09 state officers were Beth Krenek, president, East Bernard; Sarah Ornelas, first vice president, Baytown; Ashley Stilley, second vice president; Christina Muench, secretary, Houston; and Laura Aguilar, reporter, El Campo.
There are 56 JCDA courts across Texas with 801 members. Six new courts were installed in this term and two more were expected over the summer.
Guest speakers included the Rev. John Peters, state JCDA chaplain, and pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville; Libby Ramirez, National CDA Regent, of Victoria; Terrie Beltran, JCDA/youth state chair of El Campo; Carolyn Bachmann, 2007-09 CDA state regent of Scotland; Sheila Martinka, newly elected state regent of Deer Park.
Others attending were Cecina Kojemans, state parliamentarian of Dallas; Carolyn Malik, first vice state regent of Shiner; Peggy Rosales, second vice state regent of Austin; Eve Trevino, state secretary of Corpus Christi; and Terrie Vacek, state public relations chairman of Willis.
Keynote speaker for the banquet was Jade Vacek Marcantel of Houston, JCDA charter member of St. Bernadette Court No. 1108 in East Bernard.
Beltran recognized each of the newly installed courts from 2007-09; Our Lady of the Body of Christ Court No. 2548 of Corpus Christi; Court Our Lady No. 2337 of Farmers Branch; Court Daughters of the Immaculate Conception No. 2581 of Denton; Court Marie No. 344 of Texarkana; Court Cathedral No. 246 of Corpus Christi; and Court Our Lady of St. John of Houston.
Beltran presented personal awards to outgoing JCDA 2007-09 JCDA officers and JCDA state chaplain.
The 2007-2009 officers presented a bouquet of flowers to Beltran.
Beltran and Krenek presented the following awards:
Membership and Retention Contest awards: Platinum Level - Court St. Paul, Shiner, and Gold Level - Court Sacred Heart, Hallettsville.
JCDA Court Newsletter: first, Court St. Paul, Shiner; second, Court Annunciation, La Grange; third, Court Saint Bernadette, East Bernard.
Banner: first, Court Sacred Heart, West; second, Court Mary St. John, Baytown; third, Court Sacred Heart, Hallettsville.
Scrapbook: first, Court St. Paul, Gonzales; second, St. Theresa of Lisieux, Sugar Land; third, Court Annunciation, La Grange.
Outstanding 2007-09 JCDA member: Kyla Schaecherl, Court St. Paul, Shiner.
St. Elizabeth Ann Adult Advisor Medal: tie, Carolyn Malik, Court St. Paul, Shiner and Marsha Kreymeyer, Court St. Theresa of Lisieux, Sugar Land.
New officers elected for the 2009-11 term are: president, Maya Cuellar, Garland; first vice president, Kim Kallies, Deer Park; second vice president, Sarah Proske, La Grange; secretary, Danielle Kuplechain, Houston; reporter, Felicia Garcia, El Campo.
A bid for the 2011 JCDA Convention was made by La Grange Court.
