COLETO CREEK - Goliad County Sheriff's deputies arrested six people on suspicion of possessing a "small amount" of narcotic chemicals at Coleto Creek Reservoir Park early Tuesday morning.
Sheriff deputies caught four of the suspects as they were in the process of manufacturing the chemicals into methamphetamines, said Goliad Sheriff Kirby Brumby.
The other two were in a vehicle outside the cabin, Brumby said.
The investigation began at 8:15 p.m. Monday, when Deputy Jeff Ruppert and his partner, Tanya Mares, responded to a call by a woman who claimed to have been harassed by Jason David Hubbard, 31, of Victoria. The woman lives down the street from the park.
Deputies then began patrolling the area looking for Hubbard and his Suburban vehicle. They found him parked outside a Coleto Creek Park cabin around midnight Tuesday.
Deputies found Hubbard sitting with Shannia Desiree Parker, 25, of Victoria, in his vehicle next to the cabin.
As the deputies spoke to Hubbard, he seemed very suspicious, Ruppert said.
"He became very on guard about us being around his vehicle," Ruppert said.
Ruppert then brought Zeus, the deputy's drug-sniffing dog, who alerted Ruppert that drugs were inside the vehicle, the deputy said.
Ruppert and Mares found a meth lab inside the Suburban.
Then when the deputies went to investigate the cabin, four others were caught with a meth lab as well, Ruppert said.
"They opened the door and in plain sight was the rest of the lab," Ruppert said. "We found out they were in possession of chemicals for methamphetamines."
The six arrested - four men and two women - remained in the Goliad County Jail.
The Victoria Department of Public Safety narcotics office contacted a private hazardous materials clean-up crew to secure and remove all the chemicals and materials from the cabin, according to a news release.
The incident remains under investigation.
Despite the bust, Coleto Creek Park employees want to reassure campers the park is still safe.
"We've had 30 years of park operation," said Wilfred Korth, the park's chief ranger. "This incident was an isolated incident and we've never had anything like it before. We feel the park is just as safe today as it has been any day in the past or will be in the future."
Several charges were filed against the six including engaging in organized activity, possession and transport of chemical with intent to make to make meth, and possession of a dangerous drug.

Kind of a broad statement Zorro, sure the people that drive down the highway thinking they are NASCAR or F1 drivers put everyone else at risk.
But IMO in would be almost impossible to get killed by a skydiver if your on the ground unless you are walking around a drop zone and not paying attention. The only ones skydivers can hurt are themselves or, in some cases there fellow skydivers.
Same with scuba divers, bungee jumpers and real race car drivers. Of course there is always the possibility that a fan could get injured at a racetrack.
July 27, 2009 at 5:43 p.m.Of all the drugs there are in the world, adrenaline is the most destructive to peoples lives. Adrenaline junkies are forever looking for that high they get from doing something dangerous. Adrenaline junkies not only jeopardize their own lives, but they endanger us all.
July 27, 2009 at 5:03 p.m.Jenna125, I agree - you never implied nor insinuated anything of the kind about rukiddingme. It was purely misconstrued and misinterpreted.
Pilot, I agree with what you say, too. Sad, but true.
Good job and thanks to the Goliad County Sheriff's office.
July 27, 2009 at 3:19 p.m.RUKIDDINGME: Did I even once state that it was YOU I was referring to with my bible-thumping-pitchfork-waving comment? And did Archiebonkers ever attack YOU specifically? Someone appears to be a tad preoccupied with themselves...
July 26, 2009 at 7:07 p.m.but you had a pretty good idea of what the story was about regardless of the nits?
July 24, 2009 at 11:13 p.m.OMG!!! You don't see what we see here at the office. Yeah we are glad they are caught, but it is only because of the person that called it in. Hell, we aren't even handling the case, DPS is taking the ball and running with it. Maybe something will actually happen. Don't forget, we still have a rapist on the loose. The deputies are too busy goofing off here at the office. The latest joke is: how is the Titanic and the Brumby administration alike? Both sank on their maiden voyage! It would be nice to see a full staff around here. Especially a happy one. Nobody else has the guts to speak out.
July 24, 2009 at 9:28 p.m.there's allot of nitpickers on here!
July 24, 2009 at 8:10 p.m.Jenna 125,
you loved Pilot's comment; one thing was left out of that comment, don't blame someone else for one's on stupidty. That is what a drug addtic does..
July 24, 2009 at 10:39 a.m.Pilot: I love your comments. Sometimes it seems as if you're the only intelligent, well-spoken commenter on these boards. Are you sure you're from Victoria? Just kidding ;-)
July 24, 2009 at 10:17 a.m.But seriously...it's refreshing to see someone who opens their minds to ALL possibilities rather than focusing on keeping things like they were 150 years ago when torch-waving, pitchfork-carrying bible thumpers took the law upon themselves. Thanks!
Way to go Goliad Sheriff's Department!
I have a great deal of appreciation for not only the Goliad Sheriff's department but in particular for our own Sheriff T. Michael O'Conner who is doing a great job along with Victoria Police in dealing with crime in the area.
And about gangs, yes they are here and they are doing business. They, however, are not stupid enough to put a meth lab in a suburban or use a State Park as their HQ. Most likely the folks who do this kind of stuff are unassociated players, random actors and lone wolf types or possibly wholesalers to the gangs. But if You are an actual gangster and you mess up the way these folks did in the gang and you are dead--or wish you were.
July 22, 2009 at 4:24 p.m."what about the gangs and mafia in victoria i think thats way worse"
The gangs and mafia in Victoria ARE the drug dealers!
July 22, 2009 at 3:40 p.m.lol @ www. I can see right through the sarcasm! I'm with you though. Feed em to the gators!
July 22, 2009 at 2:23 p.m.oh and i dont care about the drug dealers just they have family's that have to read or hear stuff about this and they might be drug dealers ....what about the gangs and mafia in victoria i think thats way worse
July 22, 2009 at 2:21 p.m.you people are sick wanting these people to be shot and die . thats why we have jail's hello wake up victoria !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
July 22, 2009 at 2:16 p.m.Slayed...Yeah, you're right. We should be more considerate of the families of thugs and drug dealers. After all, they raised the young gentlemen and ladies to be what they are. I apologize for being insensitive to their feelings. I guess it's not nice to wish such things on the fine, upstanding citizens we're talking about here. Drug dealers have feelings, too. I'm sorry.
July 22, 2009 at 2:16 p.m.you people dont think about those people's familys when you are saying they should be eaten by a gator ,,,,,,they have family's ,,,,,,,,grow up
July 22, 2009 at 2:04 p.m.I would name names but they would get deleted.
July 22, 2009 at 12:57 p.m.Well its time to get the drug dealers off the streets of Victoria.
July 22, 2009 at 12:56 p.m.Pilot..."I'm surprised they didn't shoot the drug manufacturer. He'll do what the gator couldn't - get a public defender and bleed the taxpayers for as long as he can."
I'm rather disappointed that they didn't shoot the dealer. He posed a far greater threat to the people in the area than the 'gator.
July 22, 2009 at 12:38 p.m.I think they should add charges of stupidity, doh and lol!
July 22, 2009 at 6:40 a.m.I do agree the Goliad sheriff's dept did a great job of ridding the area of true vermin.
July 21, 2009 at 10:12 p.m.Bobby Tomek
July 21, 2009 at 10:08 p.m."The gator was deemed to pose an imminent threat to park visitors, and THAT is why it was removed. Period. "
Well I think this falls into the same category right? So let's do the same for them....They indeed pose more danger to our youth and others than the "Large Monster" did right?
Oh yeah, I forgot the gator is dead. I'm sure there are other hungry lizards in the lake.
July 21, 2009 at 9:50 p.m.I've got an idea.....why don't we feed the drug dealer to the gator? Then everyone is happy except the drug dealer, who is already unhappy because he is looking through a cage.
July 21, 2009 at 9:48 p.m.X
Archie. I agree. How can anyone in their right mind do meth, and how can anyone want to legalize illegal drugs? You would have to be either a drug user, drug pusher, an idiot, or a combination of.
July 21, 2009 at 9:27 p.m.I don't understand why anyone in their right mind would ever do meth!
July 21, 2009 at 9:03 p.m.great work here by Goliad Co. Sheriff !!!
keep it up
