NORDHEIM - Five Kenedy teens were arrested after being caught with beer taken from a Nordheim bar early Friday morning.

About 12:45 a.m., DeWitt County Sheriff's Deputy Gerard LaGrange noticed a vehicle driving away from an alley behind several closed businesses. The deputy stopped the vehicle and found a large amount of cold beer inside, according to a news release. LaGrange's K-9 partner also found a small amount of marijuana inside the vehicle.

Upon questioning and investigation, LaGrange determined the Broadway Bar had been burglarized.

Arrested and charged with burglary of a building were Nicholas Jacques, 17, Robert Briones, 18, Nieves Monsevais, 17, and Kyle Gomez, 17, all of Kenedy. Monsevais was also charged with possession of marijuana. All four remain in the DeWitt County Detention Center on $15,000 bond each. Monsevais has an additional $800 bond on the possession charge.

A 16-year-old juvenile was also arrested, charged with burglary and released to his parents.

"We also got broken into about a week ago and it seems to have been getting worse the last several years, especially in the summer," bar owner Cathy Voelkel said. "We appreciate the quick action by the sheriff's department in catching them this time."

Voelkel said three or four cases of beer were recovered.
