CUERO - Jake Rangnow was an all-district linebacker and catcher, but the Cuero senior had no trouble deciding what sport to pursue on the college level.
Rangnow signed a letter-of-intent to play baseball at Hill College in Hillsboro. Rangnow also had the opportunity to play football at Blinn College in Brenham.
"I've always liked football and the games and the intensity," Rangnow said. "Baseball has always been my passion. Anything from practices, I can practice baseball for four hours and never think twice about it and that's just really what I love."
Rangnow hit .410 this season and led the team with five home runs and 44 RBI. He also stole a team-leading 26 bases for the Gobblers, who finished the season with a 27-2 record.
"When I came out to watch Jake, we always look for the physical tools and he has the great arm we're looking for, the bat speed, he runs well, especially for a catcher he runs really, really well," Hill assistant coach Michael Crabtree said. "Besides that, just the way he plays the game. You can tell he's a high-character kid who works hard and plays the game right and that's really what caught my eye."
Rangnow will play for a select team this summer and should have an opportunity to start next season at Hill, which competes in the Texas Junior College Athletic Conference.
"We don't guarantee playing time by any means," Crabtree said. "We're expecting him to come in and do the job and play right away as a freshman."

Good for him, I know Coach Reeve was not happy about this! He wants to be know as putting out the best football playier in Cureo. Now only some of his coaching staff will teaching in class rather then watch film in them. Like his PE classes where his son teaches in!
