WHARTON - A Wharton farmer was killed Monday after his tractor rolled into an irrigation canal and landed on top of him, according to a Wharton County Sheriff's Office report.
Arnold Hlavinka, 62, was shredding grass and preparing his rice crops for irrigation Monday morning shortly before the accident. Deputy Christopher French responded to the call at 9:36 a.m. He found the man was underneath the tractor.
Boling Volunteer Fire Department also assisted with the incident.
Officials do not know the initial cause of the accident, according to the report.
Justice of the Peace Jeanette Krenek pronounced Hlavinka dead at the scene, and the body was sent to the Travis County Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

June 17, 2009 at 10:48 a.m.Those who produce what we eat have a tough, difficult and dangerous job. It is often done in inclement weather and is most often a thankless endeavor! My prayers will be with this family today! May the Lord God bless and keep them. May His peace and grace comfort them, in Jesus' name!
