Regarding the Advocate's home value appraisal article. While I am glad that Victoria is not caught up in the mortgage lending crisis, I would say the the idea that property values are increasing is not a good thing for taxpayers. It seems to be the old Texas thing to raise taxes when the taxpayer is hurting the most.

I really had to laugh about the Water Safari question today. It would take a miracle, a real miracle, for me to take part in the Water Safari. At my age, I would die after being on the water in a boat for 30 minutes.

I would like to know if there is a time limit on the trains blocking the crossings. If there isn't, there should be at least a 10-minute time limit. If there is a time limit, what can you do to enforce it?

Reading about T. Michael O'Conner this morning reminded me of a story that happened over three years ago. I had just moved into town, and I had my oil changed, and they messed up my van. I was stranded, knowing no one. This man sitting beside me offered the name and number of a local parts store that brought car parts to me, and another kind man offered me his card and said, "If you need anything give me a call." This man was T. Michael O'Connor. I want to thank both men again for helping me. I would love to pick up the daily paper and read about random acts of kindness. More about what people do for each other instead of what they do to each other.

VISD stricter dress code needed? Of course, and of course all public schools need one. I do not recommend the Nazi-like sameness of private schools dress codes. These schools carry authorization too far, and monotony is as bad as bad as any peculiarity of wear.

I am calling about the VISD dress code. I definitely think that they should have a stricter dress code. I think that the reason that they don't is because the people who are responsible for making those decisions are listening to their own children, and obviously their own children don't want to have stricter uniforms. I think that we should have a stricter dress code. I think that we should have had one a long time ago. Hopefully we will have one now.
