June 21 - John C. Sigmund has just opened a grocery store at 601 S. Navarro Street and has a nice fresh stock of staple and fancy groceries. He solicits and will greatly appreciate your trade.
June 22 - Mayor Schneider and Marshal Diebel and families returned yesterday from a two week outing at Old Indianola, and report a very enjoyable time. However, we regret to say that it did not benefit Mr. Schneider's health much, if any, and his condition is about the same as before.
The firm of Crain & Crain here has been dissolved, M.N. Crain continuing here and W.H. Crain returning to Victoria. The Crain boys are made of mighty solid stuff and we are always glad to note their onward and upward course. The many friends of Mr. Crain will be delighted to learn that he will again make his home here.
June 23 - For Sale: One gentle horse and a rubber tired phaeton, almost new. Inquire at this office.
June 26 - Mayor Schneider left yesterday for San Antonio for the benefit of his health, in which we hope to soon be able to note a decided improvement.

June 23 - Harrison Stafford of Wharton, one of the most outstanding football performers ever to play in the Southwest conference, was in Victoria recently to attend the wedding of two of his former classmates, Miss Eileen Crain and Joseph Sullivan.
June 24 - The Victoria Bank and Trust Company, regarded as one of the leading banking institutions in South Texas, has declared a four percent semi-annual dividend, payable as of June 30. The dividend payment was announced by D.E. Blackburn, active vice-president. The fact the payment is the first in two years by this bank, shows clearly the depression has hit the toboggan and prosperity is definitely here.
June 27 - Mrs. G.H. Hensley entertained last night with a party honoring Mr. Hensley on his birthday anniversary. Delicious refreshments were served to the guests. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Gus Whitte, Mr. and Mrs. L. Ellis, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Diener, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kalina, Mrs. Guy Hensley of Bay City, Mrs. George Ireland and Miss Eleanor Frances Hensley.
1959
June 22 - Three Victoria reservists came home Sunday from Fort Polk, La., with the new rank of sergeant. They are Norman D. Mutchler, Weems T. Moller and Carl A. Johnson. All three are members of Co. D., 1st Battle Group, 357th Infantry, and a part of the 90th Division.
June 24 - The Crosstown Home Demonstration Club met at the home of Mrs. Donald Meek recently. Mrs. C.M. Cammack, president, introduced Mrs. H. Fred Buckert who gave a demonstration on cake decorating.
June 26 - Rainfall measuring more than 4-inches in some parts of the city, turned streets into wading pools and virtual waterways in Victoria yesterday, and threatened to flood some homes in low areas. Hydrostatic pressure in sewer conduits turned man-holes into geysers in some places. Water stood as much as 12-inches deep in some streets, notably on Mistletoe Avenue and at the intersection of Laurent Street and Rio Grande Boulevard.
1984
June 25 - Grocery specials: Tuna Star Kist, 61/2 oz. can, 25 cents; Smoked Hams, Bar "S", 89 cents per pound; Fryers, fully dressed, 27 cents per pound; Bacon, Raths, 2 lb. pkg., 89 cents; Salad Dressing, Miracle Whip, qt., 45 cents.
June 21 - Approximately 2,000 people attended the summer's first Starlight Concert in Riverside Park Wednesday night. Chase performed at the event, sponsored by the Victoria Parks and Recreation Department.
The lunch pail or brown paper bag, shunned by sophisticated high schoolers as out of date or not grown up enough to suit them, may become fashionable again as students at Victoria and Stroman High schools will find themselves bound to their campuses when school resumes this fall. Victoria public school trustees Tuesday took a step to relieve off-campus misconduct of some high schoolers by closing the campuses. The action means that students will no longer be permitted to leave the schools to eat elsewhere during lunch periods.
June 22 - Unemployment in Victoria county in May dropped under the 6 percent mark for the first time in four years, according to the Texas Employment Commission, while the figure for the city of Victoria dropped to an even 6 percent.
June 26 - Sixty Victoria county jail prisoners moved to the new facility at 101 N. Glass Street, which had been placed into full operation Monday morning. Thirty-eight of the inmates came from the old facility across the street, which was built in 1940, while the others were moved from the minimum security unit at Victoria Regional Airport.
