I've always thought 13 was a lucky number.
It's been 13 months since I wrote my Living Space column, and I'm coming back to write about home projects and ideas in the Advocate's Thursday Home and Garden Section.
How did I get here again? I spoke to Amber in the Advocate's classified section to place an ad recently. She was so helpful, I just had to write editor Chris Cobler and tell him about her. We exchanged a few e-mails, and here I am.
A lot has happened during the past year. At the time my column ended, our plan was to move to San Antonio. We had put our house up for sale because of an opportunity Tim had at work, which required us to be closer to a major airport. But, the housing market hasn't . well, you know what it's been like. And it's hard to feng shui the world economy.
Road warriors
Even so, Tim's job focus changed - and so have our minds - but we're still tearing up the roads driving to and from airports. Only now, we're not so sure that we want to move to San Antonio and have considered Rockport because of its proximity to the water and the Corpus Christi airport. Or, maybe, Honolulu because we love Hawaii and its direct flights to the West Coast, where Tim does most of his business.
We love our home and where we live, but the drives to and from Austin and San Antonio are tough.
That being said, we're grateful business has been good for us both. My E-zine has more than 10,000 subscribers now, and Tim keeps helping pharmaceutical companies make new medicines.
Life goes on and gets better
But despite our uncertainty about where we'll end up or when we'll find a buyer for our house, one thing is certain: We have to keep living and going on with our lives. So, that means, I keep right on doing things around the house, despite the for sale sign in the yard or our indecision about where we want to live.
What's interesting to me is how many of the columns I wrote continue to spur your e-mails. And, sniff, I've missed you.
Apparently, everyone is still searching for that elusive night of great sleep because I received countless e-mails asking about the bed I bought after writing about it. A year later an e-mail still straggles in asking for the maker - and that mattress is still the only place I want to sleep. For inquiring minds, the mattress was the top brand of Stearns and Foster at Lack's on Navarro Street.
I'll also enjoy receiving your e-mails and invitations, like to the woodworkers group who invited me to their Saturday morning coffee klatch . can you send me another e-mail with your information? My e-mail crashed this winter, but I'd love to come for coffee and see your beautiful work.
Then, there are the e-mails about my favorite dishwasher liquid that I promise will return the shine and sparkle to your glasses and silverware. You can buy it at healthyhomecleaners.com, and tell them I sent you. I did get one complaint about it from someone who said it won't take off lipstick. But, here's the rub: if it takes off lipstick, it'll take off the sparkle too.
Plans for the future
So, here's what I've thought about the past year, and what I'd like to do with the Living Space column now. I'll continue to write about trends and ideas, but I'll be more project focused, showing you what I'm up to around the house and giving you more step-by-step instructions.
If that sounds good, let me know. If you have questions, send them in.
Have you done a home project? Write me and show it off. You never know, I might just call you.
I love to hear from you and want to know what you'd like to read about every other week, because the column will now be bi-monthly.
Lastly, if you enjoy the Web, check out my Kathryn Weber Facebook page or you can find me on Twitter if you look for "fengshuikatie." I tweet often, so you'll hear about business, my travels, questions I have, and silly things like where I'm eating or hotel I'm staying at. You can check out my blog at www.redlotusletter.com, and sign up for my weekly e-mails to learn more about feng shui or what I'm up to.
I'm looking forward to talking to you again and want to remind you that every space, even one for sale, is a living space.
