Editor, the Advocate:
It was another normal Texas summer day, with the temperature breaking 100, so, of course, we managed to have a flat tire on the way home from the grocery store.
While we were changing the tire and sweating bullets, about 20 cars zoomed past, and some honking, as if that was going to help the tire get changed. Being the strong women we are, we managed to get the tire off, and finally a nice gentleman pulled over and asked if we would like him to finish. We were most definitely happy to let him.
This courageous man, Les Blanchett, from Victoria, braved the heat and took time out of his day to help two damsels in distress on the side of the road. He is retired from the Texas Department of Transportation. We just want the community to know that there are still people who are kind and caring and are willing to help two women in need. Annette and I want to thank Mr. Blanchett for coming to our aid.

Editor's note: We encourage you to send letters describing acts of heroism or kindness in which these special residents ask nothing in return. We will feature these letters when we receive them from you. We think Victoria is full of these kinds of acts, and we see them happening almost daily. Here's how to submit: Bring them to the Advocate, 311 E. Constitution St.; mail them to P.O. Box 1518, Victoria 77902; or e-mail.
