The medical license of Dr. Shirley Pigott of Victoria has been suspended by the Texas Medical Board.

The action last week came after a determination that Pigott's continuation in the practice of medicine presents a continuing threat to the public welfare, according to a Texas Medical Board news release.

The action was based on Pigott's failure to comply with a previous board order, unprofessional and dishonorable conduct, and impaired mental status, according to the release.

The suspension was effective immediately. The length of a temporary suspension order is indefinite, but it remains in effect until the board takes further action.

  • A good GP who sends u to the hospital will check on you there.

    April 6, 2009 at 12:21 p.m.
  • Pigott at one time had privledges at the hospitals for she use to also deliver babies but is no longer privledged to do that either.

JT,since we are both patients of Dr.Pigott's,go to the ER and tell the doctors and nurses who your doctor is and see what stares you will get and the stories the hospitals staff will tell you about her.I can understand you being her patient wanting to take up for your doctor and I will say she's a nice lady but in NO way is she capable of being a doctor. She has had a hard life and it has taken over her mental stability, yes,it's sad and I don't wish that on anyone but I be damned if I sit hear like a dummy and tell the rest of the world that she is in full position to be a doctor atleast at this time.I just need to find a doctor whom will accept her patients..

  • What good is a Dr. if he/she can not see or treat you in a hospital. He does not have hospital privileges. That is not his choice, its the hospitals. He may choose not to go into a hospital, but will they let him if he wanted to.

    April 4, 2009 at 8:40 p.m.
  • Well lets just say its nice to be able to see a dr. that has admitting prviliges. My family doctor only admits to Detar.

    April 4, 2009 at 7:04 p.m.
  • I know that someone stated that Dr. Piggot did not have Hospital privileges. I have heard that Dr. Taylor Starkey does not have hospital privileges. What is the story behind that.........?

    April 4, 2009 at 5 p.m.
  • vbb - lol

i don't know the woman but i imagine that if my husband committed suicide, i would have some mental health issues and be stressed to the max. i hope she gets herself together and i hope that tmb doesn't give back any licenses easily.

    April 3, 2009 at 10:58 p.m.
  • Or to seek the help that you need.

    April 3, 2009 at 5:25 p.m.
  • JT, did you read the PDF attached to her license? The TMB is the Texas Medical Board which is a board made up of her peers, not insurance companies. The Board order she had in effect from 2007 was from a complaint by a patient.

    April 3, 2009 at 5:08 p.m.
  • victorianbybirth.......... I previously stated she had angered TMB and also BC/BS. Bits and pieces of prior conversations were used in TMB complaints. Not the entire statement . Should also note TMB did not have 1 current patient's complaint to use against her. The fact they used a charge she has not been convicted of should be below TMB's dignity but it wasn't. TMB attacked her moral and mental ability to silence her. Have to remember this is a
"Political Board" usually made up of Insurance Company darlings.
probably not to your or my good. One would have to be a member of her profession to know how dangerous it is to be critical of such board. If you have time, look into how many complaints and suits have been brought against the TMB.
Time heals and time reveals and time will take of this also both with healing and revelation.

    April 3, 2009 at 4:59 p.m.
  • JT, how would you explain stating in writing to legislatures, etc that the DPS & Tx Blue Cross Blue Shield are stalking her? It's all listed on the PDF file attached to her license on TMB. It also states she admitted to having some unknown mental disability. I am not trying to knock a woman when she is down, but those are her words, from her hearing with TMB. I'm sorry but I do believe she needs a vacation to rest, recuperate from her recent ordeals & get some help for her problems.

If all it was was failing to stop, that would fall under refusing to stop, fleeing or whatever you want to call it, felonious assault is not the same thing unless the police officer was in front of her car as she was refusing to stop.

    April 3, 2009 at 2:12 p.m.
  • I would like to find a good family doctor in Victoria. If there are any ICU nurses that post could you name a good one?

    April 3, 2009 at 1:02 p.m.
  • oneswhoshappy- intresting, I never mentioned hwy 59 however since you did. 1. yes, its busy however I must have missed all
those bright street lights between Ganado & Louise or Louise to
El Campo and so on. Get the picture ! Oh, yes how many people
have you stopped to help on just such a road - under said situation?

    April 3, 2009 at 12:44 p.m.
  • LBB it's not a crime to be "different" many revered people in history have been considered "different" and persecuted by their peers. When one takes on their governing body and its "status quo" they will need courage and be ready to face adversity. Very few things are as they appear face value and those who speak with such hostility and anger willl eventually find this had nothing to do with harming any patient. Dr. Pigott wants changes that
would allow DR's to treat those who most mainstream Dr.s refuse for not having insurance or fear of losing their license. Oh, yes the felony charge on a police officer - refusing to stop in an isolated country area after dark and driving into town before stopping. Speak gently ladies, the next charge may be against you for the same thing if your ever alone and afraid to stop on a long dark road.

  • Shoulda called a code 13.

    April 2, 2009 at 9:46 p.m.
  • What is it with doctors? I live in Abilene, Texas and my mother was rushed to the emergency room and then CCU. I asked the physician a question and was verbally attacked. I didn't know it at the time but one of the physicians had made a mistake.
There are numerous good physicians but the bad ones need to have their license taken away.

  • Dr. Wendt was notorious for prescribing 1mg Xanax TID to all Medicaid pts. Didn't surprise me they went after him as it was always for #90 with 0 refills. We would have to call for refills, he would approve & then bill MCD for office visit.

    April 2, 2009 at 7:49 p.m.
  • vvb i believe there are thousands still addicted to pain prescription drugs here in victoria.. Its really sad. I worked pain management for 8 years.. Its really sad. how doctors can give
120 methadone, 120 xananx, 120 lorcets to one pt. i myself would not be able to fuction with that many meds. we still have a physician here in town that gives out that many. email me. and i will let you in on it. those medicade charges were dropped on dr. Wendt.

    April 2, 2009 at 7:33 p.m.
  • Dr. Wendt....lol, that's another crooked one. I don't know how many patients he had addicted to various prescription drugs. Didn't he get charged or accused of Medicaid fraud?

    April 2, 2009 at 5:44 p.m.
  • Dr. Pigott did have privileges at DeTar at one time. I cannot remember what happened that her privileges were suspeneded. Have to think about that one i beleive it had to do with an OB patient. (not sure). As far as I know you don't have to pass any procedures to get or be able to admit patients to the hospital. Reason i say that is i use to work for a dr. that came to Victoria and all we did was fill out paper work required by the hospital to obtain privileges. I have known Dr. Pigott since she came to victoria when she was in practice with Dr. Wendt. Dr. Wendt would do anything for you. He would see patients even though they couldn't pay for their visit and you don't find to many doctors like that anymore. Now back to Pigott, I hope she gets the help she needs. Hopefully her boys can stay strong.

    April 2, 2009 at 5:38 p.m.
  • Ummm....Chica, we can't keep meeting (of the minds) like this! It's going to damage our reputations!

    April 2, 2009 at 5:34 p.m.
  • why is it that when someone gets in trouble for their own behavior somebody come on the comments and says its some type of conspiracy or someone had a grudge and used their clout? what would the medical board have to gain? what voice did she have? she couldn't even pass the hospital board procedures to get privileges at any hospital - she couldn't have admitted any patients that needed hospital care nor have taken care of them when they were in the hospital.

seems to me the medical board bends over backwards to help doctors keep their licenses - including after something they did leads to a patient's death.

this has to be really serious for them to suspend her license without making her go thru some type of remediation and education and probation first.

    April 2, 2009 at 5:14 p.m.
  • The TMB doesn't have time for personal vendettas. If you read the PDF file concerning the suspension you will see she really does have some issues she needs time to address. The felonious assault on a Police Officer was not dreamt up by TMB, that was what got the ball rolling with them to begin with. Her written rants to legislative officials didn't help her case.

    April 2, 2009 at 5:11 p.m.
  • How sad, it's so easy today to post such hurtful comments! Dr. Pigott
is in disagreement with the TMB & has angered the wrong people.
Her heart is for the common person and public health. I find her to be a fine and caring Doctor. The TMB board used their clout to try to
stop her voice and the TMB is the one who has placed her patients in jeapordy by taking their Doctor's license for their own gain

    April 2, 2009 at 1:40 p.m.
  • We're happy to share any credit for coverage. The board did send us a news release last week about the suspension. The local editor passed the release along to a reporter to write, but it got buried on a desk.
A reader's post reminded me to ask why the release had not appeared yet. Thanks to all readers who suggest stories. We do our jobs better when readers get involved.

  • I have to back up VBB and JMO on this one. On Monday...I day before the VicAd posted this story (see date is Tuesday) I posted a comment to a single line post by VBB that said simply that Dr. Shirley Pigott had her medical license suspended by TMB. It was on Monday the first day of the new online page set up for VicAd. All of those posts including the original post were gone by that night...why??? computer page kinks?....VicAd wanting to verify the infor first?....VicAd wanting to take credit for breaking the news??..who knows...what I do know is that I replied to the original post and it was all gone by Mon. night.

I am not surprised about this move by TMB...it is most likely way overdue in my opinion. She is a mean little woman...her husband was such a nice man and very well liked and surely had a lot to endure with after saying "I do." She is a donut short of a bakers dozen...and has been for a long time.

My heart goes out to her boys...with their father gone...they are surely stuck.

    April 1, 2009 at 9:03 p.m.
  • Ok, my comment disappeared.

JMO, sorry to hear about your predicament. It is extremely hard to find a MD in Victoria, much less one that accepts new patients. Be sure & check out all the prospects on the TMB website. Good luck!

    April 1, 2009 at 3:50 p.m.
  • Where is my comment?

    April 1, 2009 at 3:48 p.m.
  • really rabbitforsale, the state medical board said Dr. Piggot is a, and I quote, "...continuing threat to the public welfare..."

That is the business of everybody in Victoria that was a patient of Dr. Piggot.

    April 1, 2009 at 3:33 p.m.
  • When their business affects personal health then it is our business. Think logically rabbitforsale.

    April 1, 2009 at 3:02 p.m.
  • Don't people have anything else to do in this town,. What happened to minding your owns business....

    April 1, 2009 at 2:56 p.m.
  • The truth is the VA knew nothing of this issue until I posted a blog about it.It's no big deal (besides they'll never admit to it)but now I can actually say that the VA takes way too much credit for the crap they come up with.

As I said before,I'm a patient of Dr.Pigott's and I as well have been seeing her since I was a teen for "female check-ups" and this woman has me on numerous medications besides bp meds.Medications that would kill me if I would be dumb enough to take them all. There are at least 8 Medications that I refuse to fill because if I took them all I would have no pulse and they are still on file at the pharmacy I use.

The problem I'm having now is finding a Dr that will accept Dr.Pigott's patients and that's not happening.Maybe a story on that would've been better.

    April 1, 2009 at 2:37 p.m.
  • I mean the PERSONAL attention of a roughneck...like "I have an appointment with my roughneck today". The roughneck does not take the oil out of the ground & personally process it into gasoline. You were stretching it with that one.

    April 1, 2009 at 2:30 p.m.
  • Only a few of those you listed are required to pass State Board exams and have State Boards they answer to. I personally would rather have a bad plumber than a bad doctor. One is a nuisance the other could kill me.
Seriously, roughneck? How many people actually require the personal service of a roughneck?

    April 1, 2009 at 2:16 p.m.
  • Well I was counting on my 2 fingered hand. I should have elaborated that that is 3 that I can think of off the top of my head & I also no longer reside in Victoria. So 3 is quite a bit considering Victoria has so few Dr.s.

    April 1, 2009 at 1:48 p.m.
  • VIcAd is always on the defensive. We mention one thing about JMO posting first and all of a sudden they request the public info officer to post. lol Ohhh it really is hilarious. Calm down VicAd, if you just accept the ship is sinking, you can hand out the life vests now and save some.

    April 1, 2009 at 1:29 p.m.
  • Really....I can think of at least 3.

    April 1, 2009 at 1:17 p.m.
  • Well look at JMOs blog qbout the subject. It was all there before this story appeared. I also don't remember the Advocate printing Board orders in the past.

    April 1, 2009 at 12:01 p.m.
  • Anyone who would like to receive news releases from the Texas Medical Board may send me their e-mail address and I will add them to the distribution. Releases go out after each board meeting, announcing board activities including disciplinary actions, as well as after temporary suspension hearings, which are public.
Releases are also posted on the TMB web site at http://www.tmb.state.tx.us/news/press...

  • Sure sure..it's all going downhill.

    April 1, 2009 at 9:26 a.m.
  • Thanks for the clarification, Sonny. That blows VBB's theory about her and JMO being responsible for the reporting of the story out of the water.

    April 1, 2009 at 9:12 a.m.
  • I received via e-mail a Press Release from the Texas Medical Board. That is where any and all the information in the story came from.

    April 1, 2009 at 8:27 a.m.
  • I think she should have been investigated a long time ago. She diagnosed me with lukemia when I was 18 turns out I did not have cancer.....she put me through hell. At least she cant hurt anyone else!!

    April 1, 2009 at 7:51 a.m.
  • i went to this horror of a woman for "womanly doctor" appointments when I was much younger. She had the nerve to actually chastise me for the fact that I was having sex with the only boyfriend I'd ever had even though I made him wait for almost 3 years and then during an exam she hurt me...pretty badly...and acted disgusted and annoyed at my being in pain. She is a horrible HORRIBLE woman.

    April 1, 2009 at 4:45 a.m.
  • I went to the Texas Medical Board and I dug up all of it. It took a bit of time but I got the whole information and it sounds to me like she has been having a problem for a while now. My husband said he use to see her when he was a child and he had nightmares about that woman. It really scarred him as a adult because he will not go to a doctor unless he is at deaths door.

    April 1, 2009 at 1:43 a.m.
  • Between Dr.Pigott and the VA I don't know who screwed me worse..Gzzz

    Nothing surprises me now-ah-days.

Next thing you know...she'll be calling me... and if she does I'll know exactly whom released my info:)

    March 31, 2009 at 11:02 p.m.
  • JMO time to get paid by the VA! Great Work!

    March 31, 2009 at 9:38 p.m.
  • many people around town will give the same story as annttlvn, worst dr in town

    March 31, 2009 at 9:31 p.m.
  • You should, they did......

    March 31, 2009 at 9:23 p.m.
  • Omg! I feel like the VA stole my blog.haha

    March 31, 2009 at 9:20 p.m.
  • i had dr dale pigott at VC and the man was a great chemistry teacher, great educator

    March 31, 2009 at 8:41 p.m.
  • I agree Roberttx. Most people would & probably did think they had a perfect/charmed life because they were both educated professionals....makes you wonder.

    March 31, 2009 at 8:24 p.m.
  • between this and what happened to her husband, what a weird, weird case

    March 31, 2009 at 8:20 p.m.
  • They have a newsletter, monthly or quarterly. The way they mentioned press release insinuated that they,TMB, issued one to the associated press. If JMO hadn't have brought it up & I hadn't gone to the TMB website, it wouldn't have been reported.
I also question why it is being reported. The woman obviously has some serious problems & has faced a major loss recently. If they didn't report what she did to have her license suspended, they shouldn't report the suspension. Reeks of tabloidism if you ask me. The action that caused the suspension should have been in the blotter, but I never saw it.

    March 31, 2009 at 8:14 p.m.
  • VBB...the TMB issues press releases, and has done so for years. Go to their website. Click on news, then click on press releases.

    March 31, 2009 at 7:17 p.m.
  • VBB I agree on your post! Good Job JMO.. and welcome back to the VA..... we need some girl time..

    March 31, 2009 at 6:07 p.m.
  • Gee, didn't read the PDF file attached to her board order? The TMB does not give "press releases" though all State licensing boards do have monthly or quarterly newsletters that state all board orders or disciplinary actions imposed on license holders. I don't think this one would have been published yet considering the time frame, as it happened 6 days ago. Your story should have stated "from a blog by JMO31" the details posted by VBB.
