Thanks, Sugar, but it's not our fault you can't keep up. Blame our deletions on those folks who hold a different opinion than we do, and whine about it. When you haven't been threatening, haven't called names and haven't stated something that was unsubstantiated, it's hard to figure. Doesn't do any good to ask the Advocate--they don't answer the emails! So there you are!
I personally feel we are being targeted for some reason. Perhaps if we get some angry looking avatars people won't mess with us!
June 8, 2009 at 7:11 a.m.Hey, Smartee....between you, Pilot, and RUKIDDINGME, I can't keep up with the threads of your posts because you keep getting deleted. I have the feeling I'm missing some really prime stuff. D'OH!
You'd better read this fast; since it's off-topic, it will likely get deleted, too.
Should I say, Smartee, keep up the good work? :)
June 8, 2009 at 1:42 a.m.RUKIDDINGME: I agree completely that too many agencies pass over the working poor to support the scores of women and girls who are having babies before they're financially or emotionally ready for them, and that's just not fair. However, to say that one who has a child outside of marriage doesn't take their responsibility seriously is just an insulting generalization. I'm a young single mother who realizes just how important the raising of children is, and will work harder than I can imagine to make sure he has EVERYTHING he needs and that he becomes a contributing member of society, as well as a good man.
I'm happy that your daughter and her husband have the good fortune of being fiscally sound enough to afford the ever-rising costs of healthcare, but not everyone can. I'm not referring to the young women who turn having children into a career or the families who aren't doing everything possible to support themselves. There are families with parents, married or not, who work night and day to make sure their children are fed, clothed, and sheltered. These are good people who shouldn't be forgotton so easily. I also apologize for the namecalling. It was immature, and just a bad reaction to an issue I'm passionate about.
Smarteepantz: I could barely close my mouth after reading your post. To suggest that anything other than two people who are married with a child is not a family is one of the most backwards things I've ever read. A family consists of people who love each other. Period.
June 7, 2009 at 5:03 p.m.Back to the births....I noticed a name that I am related to on this list....
June 7, 2009 at 3:52 p.m.Gee RU, sounds kinda like buying a car. Do they give rebates? Thank goodness I am not in the market for a birthing place, but if I were, that is good info to have.
June 7, 2009 at 3:46 p.m.How odd it is that at the private hospital there are more babies born to single & or unwed parents than at the county hospital? I thought that it would be reversed.
June 7, 2009 at 3:07 p.m.jenna--I find a great deal of joy in the birth of all babies. I will NEVER forget the birth of my children or my grandchild. Congratulations RU on the grandbaby! It's way better than you thought, isn't it?
What is eyebrow raising for some of us is when these precious bundles of bliss are born to two people who have made a committment to be a family. That means a marriage. Anything other than that is just people residing in the same residence. And to say that two people can be 'committed' and not be married is folly. 'Committed' is taking ALL the steps to a goal, including the marriage ceremony.
Two people cohabitating and producing children is not a family. It is two people cohabitating and producing children. I venture to say that many of the unwed couples having children are not even living together, making them even further from a 'family'. But, are those children any less precious than my grandchild who was born to a MARRIED couple, or less precious that RU's grandchild who was born to a MARRIED couple? Of course not.
It is always good to see a married couple in the births. And if you think RU and I are off the mark, check the archives online here. The unwed to wed ratio is about 2 to 1. Look for yourself.
June 7, 2009 at 2:06 p.m.When my granddaughter was born, it took about 3 1/2 weeks for the announcement to appear. I had taken pics shortly after she was born and posted a blog announcing her birth..
I also believe that the parents must give the hospital permission to post the births in the newspaper.
June 7, 2009 at 12:57 p.m.Ya'll realize it's June 5th? No births in Vic since May? Get with it!
June 5, 2009 at 9:13 a.m.When does the new issue of births come out?
May 16, 2009 at 1:53 p.m.
