GOLIAD - Officials arrested a Goliad man they believe to have been involved in two April burglaries, and who lost a shoe as he jumped a fence fleeing officials.

Deputies arrested Billy Glenn Moore, 41, Friday on a warrant charging him with burglary, said Goliad County Sheriff's Department Investigator Danny Madrigal.

"The shoe has proven to be valuable evidence in our opinion," said Goliad County Sheriff Kirby Brumby in a news release. "We identified the owner of the shoe. We conferred with our district attorney, and he directed us to obtain a burglary warrant."

The sheriff's office has evidence linking him with the shoe, but Madrigal said he was not at liberty to discuss it.

The most recent burglary happened on April 28 when a person broke into a Goliad couple's home but fled after the wife screamed and her husband came to her aid, Madrigal said.

On April 26, a similar incident happened when a person tried to break into a woman's home across the street from the other couple's home, but fled after shattering a window, setting off the homeowner's alarm, the investigator said.

  • From the comments here, it sounds like Goliad residents are mixing politics with law enforcement, I'm shocked. It's a shame Goliad doesn't enjoy the utopia of law enforcement being free of politics like we are blessed with here in Victoria.

  • Back up folks:
What do you mean that the DNA doesn't match? WTF!

  • JonDeer where do you get your facts? Oh wait, you probably listen to the barber.

DeLaGarza LOST face it, the only one who wants him back is his brother. That is an OBVIOUS fact.

I agree with 3331, SHERIFF Brumby is an honorable man, an educated man, and most of all yes he was a teacher. If memory serves me correctly, who spends all of their lives wanting to help a child change the world? ........... oh yeah, Teachers !!!!

I am reminded of the bumper sticker...."If you can read this, thank a teacher."

And to quote you, JonDeer....."any human with a brain..." would know the difference between a man who is dedicated to the citizens of Goliad County and a man who successfully had his photograph taken so much, he was more popular than "Waldo.", the popular cartoon character that popped up in every picture.

  • The main difference between the Educator and the barber is Sheriff Brumby (the Educator) will do what is just and right. Sheriff Brumby has high morals and will direct his staff to "do the right thing". He will surround himself with intelligent hard working staff. Sheriff Brumby will make mistakes but he will admit to them and not cover them up. He will run the office with the utmost integrity with an open door policy. He will not allow inmates to run the jail or run loose in the County. Sheriff Brumby has been getting educated in law enforcement for several years and will continue. He has a lot of common sense and will continue to use it while running the Department.
Sheriff Brumby came into the office an honorable man and will continue to be honorable for the duration of his long law enforcement career.

  • Interested in the crimes being committed in our area? I recommend you go to www.crimereports.com. It's free to join.

Once you've you joined, fill in the box at the top for your area. Try just Victoria first to get an overview, then type in the street address where you live or work, choose the time line (week, month, or year) and it will show a street map with little icons on the locations of recent crimes in your immediate area. It includes all types of crimes.

Click on one of the icons and a sidebar on the left gives some details on the crime

It also lists the street addresses of nearby REGISTERED SEX OFFENDERS- you are going to be surprised! You can also choose to have the the site email the latest map to you, weekly or monthly. I live in a pretty nice neighborhood, but there are four listed sex offenders within a mile of my house. There's some in almost every neighborhood in the city!

You can also get the same report for almost any area of the country. The site draws its info from a location that close to ninety percent of law enforcement organizations keep updated daily.

It's interesting and also a bit scary!

  • You all have obviously never lived in a small town. You can't cover up anything or pretend nothing is happening. People know before its reported in the paper what crimes are occuring. Do you feel safer?? Simple answer. Goliad Chica....what's your answer? You live there.

  • It seems nobody can never do anything right or wrong -- past or present!!! All I can say is... everyone tries to do their BEST to do the JOB or JOBS they are assigned to do. Nobody ever gives credit where credit is due or to whomever it may be. All the political offices try to do what is best for YOU. If you think you can do a better job of it; maybe you should think about running for a spot next term. ALL POWER TO YOU!!! Oh yeah, by the way, " GOOD JOB--- TO EVERYONE INVOLVED IN THE BURGLARY CASE!!! " KEEP UP THE FANTASTIC JOB EVERYONE IS DOING IN THEIR POSITIONS :) :) :)

  • It was a great CO-OPERATIVE effort by ALL involved agencies.

What Goliad County must have is more deputies.
Is the county's governing body willing to fund more positions and are the taxpayers willing to pay for them???
How much is your safety worth?

  • The story makes it sound like one dumb crackhead burglar.

I wonder how anybody could get away on foot by jumping over a fence and fleeing on foot in a little town like Goliad?

Apparently everyone needs a guard dog - glad I have 4...

As long as the crackhead was caught, I'm happy with fighting local crime and not chasing indocumentados up and down Hwy 59.

  • Who cares who worked on the case. Just be glad someone worked on the case. I agree with Chica, more crimes are being reported. And Rainyday, no more favors.

Glad to have real law enforcement in town.

  • Pieces of a puzzle. Hmmm we have a shoe here. Oh look, a guy without a shoe. Case closed.

    May 7, 2009 at 9:55 a.m.
  • it's good to see Goliad county going after the local crime and not chasing illegal aliens!

    May 7, 2009 at 9:17 a.m.
  • I think under the former Sheriff there was the same amount of crime but just less that was known to the public!! There was alot of favors being done and secrets being kept!!! In my opinion everyone that was involved with this case went above and beyond to solve the case!! Justice sounds like you have not been wearing a happy face either!!! If you are so miserable at your job then maybe you should find another one!! I think The Tote is hiring!!!

    May 7, 2009 at 9:12 a.m.
  • IDK what to think. Seems to be more crime reported since new sheriff, but is that more crime or just more reporting?

    May 7, 2009 at 8:52 a.m.
  • OMG! We can't believe he didn't mention that it was Constable DeLaGarza and Texas Ranger Andy Lopez who cracked the case. Sure, others had worked on it, but these two officers went above and beyond to do their job, but the sheriff was so mad that his own officers couldn't pull it together. He is not wearing the happiest of faces around here in the office lately. I agree with the earlier posting...don't let your guard down.

    May 7, 2009 at 8:47 a.m.
  • How about a thumbs up to all the officers, Sheriff Brumby, Investigator Madrigal and the Texas Rangers that were also working on the case. Constable Michael Delagarza was not the only officer working on the case and he wasn't the officer that put the pieces of the puzzle together. Everyone within the Sheriff's office is working hard to keep Goliad safe. Thumbs up to Sheriff Brumby for putting more officers on the street per shift rather than one officer per shift like it was before. Not only is Goliad a safer place for the citizens but also for the officers on duty.

  • Thumbs up to Constable Michael DeLaGarza for putting the pieces of the puzzle together! Honorable for the Sheriff to give credit to the person it was due. Don't let your guards down Goliad, but hopefully you can rest easier now knowing there IS someone working hard to make Goliad safe once again!
