Unless Congress takes specific action at the special session now in progress, nearly $1,000,000 appropriated for river and harbor improvements in various sections of the United States will be carried back into the National Treasury, much to the chagrin of many congressmen and senators.

Leo P. Dillon, son of Mrs. B. Dillon, is among the group of 21 candidates for a bachelor's degree from St. Edward's University this spring.

May 9, 1959

A 1959 model car lies partially submerged in a gravel pit south of Goldman Hill, after six Victoria youths escaped serious injury in a 30-foot plunge down an embankment after missing a turn Friday evening. The right door opened, stopping the car's roll. Bill Evans was held overnight at Victoria Hospital for observation. Jim Fortner and Bill Fly were released from the hospital. Also in the car were Dan Yarbrough, the driver, Larry Sanders and Lawrence McElroy. All are 17 years old.

May 9, 1984

A tree was lifted to the top of One O'Connor Plaza Tuesday afternoon, as part of the traditional topping-out ceremonies for the skyscraper.

The Allen Candy Factory, part of the Victoria scene for almost 40 years, has been sold and will be moved to Kingsville.
