Bonnot wins Edna council seat by 12 votes

JACKSON COUNTY

EDNA - Justin Bonnot beat incumbent Amelia Zarate for the District 1 seat on the Edna City Council by a small margin.

Bonnot received 45 votes, while Zarate received 33 votes, according to the unofficial results.

Bonnot, who grew up in Jackson County, said he was pleased with the results. Heavily involved with Edna Little League and First Baptist Church, he added he wants to help Edna grow during his time in office.

"I want Edna to be a place that moms and dads want to raise their kids," he said. "I'm very honored the people have chosen me, and I feel privileged to serve the community.

For the District 2 city council seat, incumbent Lorrain Jones beat Deloris Robinson by five votes. Jones received 71 votes while Robinson received 66 votes.

Jones was first elected to city council in 1981. One of his biggest goals while in office is to finally see the development of a children's playground in his district, a project he has been working for five years.

"It's a project very close to my heart," he said, adding that the park will be named Martin Luther King Community Park. "The children in my district didn't have any park nearby and had to go across town. It took a long time, but I stuck with it."
