The bill to expand University of Houston-Victoria to a four year institution was moving quickly through the House of Representatives and Senate in April.

Now, identical bills House Bill 1056 and Senate Bill 567 are at a halt.

State Rep. Geanie Morrison, R-Victoria, said HB 1056 has moved to the Senate Higher Education Committee.

Her bill, HB 1056, has been referred to the Senate Committee of Higher Education. No date or hearing has been set.

The Senate version of the bill, filed by Sen. Glenn Hagar of Katy, is in the House higher education committee.

The delay in moving the bills out of the Senate and House is because Thursday is the deadline to have House and Senate bills out of their respective houses, Morrison said.

"Right now the House and Senate are focusing on getting their bills out," she said.

"The bills are at the exact same place, which is great to have both of them there," Morrison said. "Both are moving forward with no oppositions."

Both bills have cleared the House and Senate, now they need to be reviewed by the opposite side. Which ever bill clears first will go to Gov. Rick Perry.

Morrison said she expects for both bills to move fairly quickly out of the House and Senate.
