If House Bill 1056 by Rep. Geanie Morrison, R-Victoria, is approved by the Senate Higher Education Committee, it will be passed to the Senate floor.
If the Senate approves the bill it will be sent to Gov. Rick Perry. He will decide to sign or veto the bill.
Identical bill Senate Bill 567 by Sen. Glenn Hegar, R-Katy, has been approved by the Senate Higher Education Committee and the Senate. It is now in the House of Representatives Higher Education Committee.
The University of Houston-Victoria is only a few steps away from becoming a four-year institution.
House Bill 1056 by Rep. Geanie Morrison, R-Victoria, continues to move through the legislature.
On Wednesday, the Senate Higher Education Committee will review the bill.
The Senate Higher Education Committee unanimously approved identical Senate Bill 567 by Sen. Glenn Hegar, R-Katy, on April 1.
SB 567 was later approved in April by the Senate and sent to the House of Representatives Higher Education Committee.
Morrison's bill was sent to the Senate Higher Education Committee in mid-May.
"I am very excited that House Bill 1056 will be heard tomorrow in the Senate Higher Education Committee and that the process continues to move forward," Morrison said Tuesday. "I commend Senator Hegar on his leadership and persistence to move the bill through the Senate and toward the Governor's desk."
Before HB 1056 reaches Gov. Rick Perry, the Senate must approve the bill.
This legislative session will end June 1.
