ALTAIR - A Hallettsville police officer died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Wednesday evening, a Colorado County justice of the peace said.

Timothy Scott Crume, of Eagle Lake, was found under the approach to the Colorado River bridge on alternate US Highway 90, which is located a few miles outside Altair. Judge George Cason said Crume died about 6 p.m.

Cason, who was reached at home Thursday evening, said he could not give Crume's age or further details about the incident because he did not have Crume's file with him.

The preliminary autopsy report, provided by Travis County Medical Examiner's Office, concluded Crume died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Cason said.

Cason said he did not suspect any foul play.

  • you know Tim was a great guy. i must say he took it seriously about the drugs in out community. now i hope someone picks up and continues to do what needs to be done. after all, all you have to have is blurred vision at the most to see all the drug activity in the area. who will be the man to pick up this pushed aside job in Tim's big shoes? GOD IS WITH THE FAMILY EVEN THOUGH THEY MAY NOT FEEL IT RIGHT NOW. LET GOD BE YOUR STRENGTH IN YOUR TIME OF WEAKNESS. LET HIM COMFORT YOU. AND MOST OF ALL SEEK GOD FOR THE ANSWERS AS IN TO WHY THIS HAPPENED.

  • This is from a brother officer that has lost several brothers in blue to suicide. God Bless You and Your Family. I met you once and you were a gentleman. I also met your wife. I am sorry for the load you were bearing. I know you sought help. This should be treated as an on duty death. God Bless
