Three Victoria residents were arrested by officers Saturday after they picked up a 25.5-pound shipment of marijuana.
Elvis Garcia Segura Sr., 45, Theresa Marie Davila Segura, 27, and Bryan Ray Jimenez, 27, were arrested at 5:36 p.m. Saturday after they picked up a package of marijuana weighing 25.5 pounds that was delivered to 909 E. San Antonio St. by FedEx, according to Officer John Jameson's arrest report.
Earlier Saturday, police received a tip that a shipment of marijuana was being delivered in Victoria that day. Drug dog officer J.R. Turner began an investigation of the FedEx at 1404 E. Rio Grande St. at 9 a.m. Saturday, according to his report. The dog caught the smell of narcotics on a box, and Turner seized the package to inspect it, according to his report.
"The package was opened revealing approximately 25.5 pounds of a substance my years of training has taught me to recognize as marijuana," the report read.
The package was repacked and delivered to the San Antonio Street address while officers watched the home. A 1995 Dodge Ram dropped off Jimenez at the home, where he went inside and brought the package out to the truck, according to the report.
A few minutes later, the driver of the Dodge, Elvis Segura, then returned to pick up Jimenez.
The pickup was followed by undercover police vehicles until marked police vehicles stopped the Dodge at 1011 E. Power St. The package was found in the bed of the pickup, according to the report.
Elvis Segura and Jiminez were arrested on suspicion of possession of between 5 and 50 pounds of marijuana, a third degree felony. Theresa Segura, who was a passenger in the truck, was also arrested on this charge.

tnt88, I certainly hope so
May 26, 2009 at 2:59 p.m.Marijuana is not the problem, it is tax evasion! No one cares about the non violent "stoner" but more that people are making tax free money and law enforcement loves this because they look like they are doing their job and getting stripes to boot. "marijauna" get over it! It will be legal soon.
May 26, 2009 at 2:42 p.m.Marijuana is one of the most benign chemicals know to man. Most drug use is medicinal. The debate over medical marijuana, hemp or cannabis is really a scandalous controversy over whether this very effective, safe and easy-to-grow herb should be allowed to compete with expensive and dangerous pharmaceuticals. Marijuana is by far safer for your health as a social choice compared to alcohol or tobacco.
Stop prohibition triggered violence, official lawlessness, racism, tyranny and ruined lives! Murderers and other violent predators roam free, while we police nonviolent adult social, medicinal and religious drug use. Limited resources can be better-spent catching pedophiles, rapists and killers. More time could go toward stopping DUI and those selling drugs to minors. Some of
the estimated $50 to $70 billion per year local/state/federal budget could go toward true education.
Help restore justice.
