Lin Havron will become Kenedy's fourth athletic director and head football coach in four years.
Havron's hiring was approved by a 4-2 vote of the Kenedy school district board of trustees at a special-called meeting Tuesday night.
Havron has been an assistant coach and athletic trainer at Comfort for the past two seasons.
He was previously the athletic director and head football coach at Navarro for nine seasons and had a record of 57-41.
Havron will replace Mike Ramirez, who resigned after one season as athletic director and head football coach.
Kenedy went 0-9 last season and has lost 24 consecutive games. The Lions haven't had a winning season since 2004 and haven't made the playoffs since 1999.
Kenedy superintendent Janet LaCour said the district received 51 applications for the position.
LaCour said Havron received a two-year probationary contract and is likely to begin his official duties on June 1.
"We're excited to have him," LaCour said. "He is ready to go."
