Translation: Here comes a lion, Father.
And he's coming to San Antonio.
Disney's "The Lion King," the Tony-award-winning Broadway sensation, is on its North American tour and starting Dec. 9, it will be playing at the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio.
If you're not one of the 45 million people around the world who has seen "Lion King" yet, you're in for quite an experience. Adapting the beloved animated film for the stage wasn't easy but with the vision of Julie Taymor, a director and designer well known for mythical staging, "Lion King" has become a must-see experience.
With animals as the central characters, Taymor created costumes in which the human actors operating the animal puppets are visually seen on stage, according to the production's official Web site.
"I thought, what if I create these giant masks that really are clearly Scar and Mufasa, but then the human face is revealed below, so that you're not losing the human facial expression, you're not hiding the actor?" Taymor says on the Web site.
The show first debuted in 1997 and is now Broadway's ninth-longest running show. For those of you who loved the original score of the animated film, no worries. "Circle of Life," "Hakuna Matata," "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" and all your other favorites are in the production.
Tickets are on sale now and start at $22.25 on up. To purchase tickets, call 1-800-745-3000.
