Editor, the Advocate:
Who is a racist?
We keep hearing Obama supporters accuse, as being racist, anyone who finds fault with or fears the direction President Obama and his administration are taking our country.
Walter Williams, a black man, criticizes President Obama and is highly respected and supported by many others who criticize President Obama. Is Walter Williams a racist, a traitor or just a common sense intellectual professor? Has the definition of racism been changed to mean disagreeing on issues with a black, liberal Democrat?
What is, and should be, important is not what color a president is or how good he is at using a teleprompter and making speeches; but rather, his philosophy and the caliber of people he surrounds himself with to run the government. If we disagree with those philosophies, it is important that we have the freedom to express that.
Obama was the Nobel Peace Prize winner not for what he has done, but for what he has planned or promised to do. What scares so many ordinary, non-political Americans is what he is doing and trying to do. He promised to fundamentally transform America and to redistribute the wealth. In a short time, he has fundamentally transformed the Democratic Party to a liberal, progressive, socialist party. Now he is criticizing the Chamber of Commerce, conservative TV and talk radio, and trying to neutralize all news media that criticize his radical programs, such as cap and trade and universal or socialized medicine.
With the present Congress, Obama has things going his way. Now, he wants to stop people from watching Fox News and listening to talk show hosts like Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh, who are exposing government corruption, the czars, advisers, and associates like ACORN. It is understandable why so many people say they never listen to talk radio or watch Fox News; the truth and knowledge can hurt, and nobody can deny that.
Trying to control our news media and free press is hazardous to our freedom, chancy and could backfire. This nation would never have been forged had it not been for the public airing of issues and the bold dissemination of ideas and opinions, often conflicting, by many of our founding fathers.
James A. Pohl, Hallettsville

I don't remember hearing President Obama claim that people that disagree with him are racist, but then again I have missed a few episodes of Glenn beck so I might not know because he hasn't told me yet.
November 12, 2009 at 2:36 p.m.No what's sad is that RACISM is very much alive still! And some people want to pretend that it has gone away!O.k,you don't agree with the President, that's your right! But way before he was in was sworn into office ,people were hating on him, cause he didn't look like our last 43 Presidents, And i've also heard the folks speaking harsh, and you know I don't like that people judge , the only one that can and will do that will be the man upstairs! God don't like ugly! And anyone that hopes our President, to fail(RUSH and anyone else) needs to seek medical help, cause if he fails, this Great Country (U.S.A)We call home, will fail too! Also, You know Our last President didn't always do good , and I didn't always agree with him on everything, but i never went so far as to hate him, cause he was still my President!
November 3, 2009 at 11:30 p.m.Because he is black he is in office, because he is black he can use the race card, because he is black he thinks that gives him the right to challenge freedom of speech, because he is black he thinks that he should be immune from the high standards that the American people expect from our commander and chief. Same story, except now we are talking about the president.
November 3, 2009 at 9:24 p.m.I'm not a racist as I dislike Biden just as much!
November 3, 2009 at 7:29 p.m.I have to agree, I hate when someone automatically calls racism whenever someone expresses disapproval for Obama. However, I also can't deny there IS a lot of it out there, mostly from senior citizens. I've had first hand experience hearing the older generation specifically say they don't like "blackie" being in office. Hang out with some senior citizens and listen to the things they say, and it becomes obvious everything they dislike about Obama is racially motivated. Not all of them. But a lot. I usually handle the criticism better when it comes from people under 50, because usually everything I hear from senior citizens is racist. I guess growing up in at a time where blacks weren't even allowed to sit with you at the movies and had separate schools and had to sit in the back of the bus made them that way. My grandparents are the same.
November 3, 2009 at 6:33 p.m.They have been getting away with crying racism to get their way for so many years that it is now probably an unconscious reflex action. Any time you do not agree, you are automatically a racist, regardless of the facts of the issue. Sad.
