AARP Chapter 829-Victoria held its October meeting at the Victoria County Senior Citizens Center on Oct. 27.
Chapter President Yvonne Smith presided over the meeting with more than 30 in attendance.
A group from the Victoria Fire Department presented a musical skit on fire safety. The group included Celeste Hunter, Elaine Mayer, Yvette Straight, Jimmie Edwards and Matt Gomez.
There was a discussion on the need to dissolve the chapter, due to declining attendance and aging membership. A majority of the membership voiced opposition to the proposal. A vote will be taken at the Dec. 29 holiday party and meeting. Birthdays were celebrated and 73 hours of volunteer service to the community were reported. The raffle was won by Vernell Mathis.
The next meeting will be Dec. 29. Each member is asked to bring at least one bingo prize and holiday refreshments.
