Victoria County Veterans Council hosts meeting

The Victoria County Veterans Council met on Oct. 28. John Tait reported the council had participated in seven full military funerals since the last meeting. The cemetery committee mowed White and Oliver cemeteries. The VA Clinic still needs more volunteers to help with making coffee and serving cookies.
The monument committee presented the suggested changes to the World War I Monument to the Commissioners Court and they approved the work. Donations are being accepted for this project.
There will be a ceremony of appreciation for the students and staff of Nazareth Academy on Nov. 10, at 9 a.m.
The Veterans Day Parade will be Nov. 11, in the area around the Community Center. The review stand is on North Street. The parade will start at 10 a.m., rain or shine. Parking is available at Stroman High School or at the new sports complex. The annual Veterans Day ceremony will follow at 11 a.m. in front of the Community Center on North Street. Please bring your own lawn chairs. State Sen. Glenn Hegar will be the speaker.
The meeting closed with prayer and a salute to the flag. The next meeting is Nov. 18.
