UHV to christen golf program

The University of Houston-Victoria will be spotlighting its golf program and supporting its scholarship fund with a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the University Center's Multi-Purpose Room.

The University will be adding men's and women's golf teams next fall to go along with the baseball and softball teams that already compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

"It is going to help us raise scholarship dollars that the program needs and also plant a seed for what the program can do for the golfers coming in and for the community," said UHV athletic director Ashley Walyuchow.

Speakers Homero Blancas, Jr., and Bill Bevill will give speeches at the event to initiate the new teams. Blancas is a member of the University of Houston Athletic Hall fo Fame and a four-time winner on the PGA tour.
