GOLIAD -A Falfurrias man will be sentenced Monday after a Goliad jury found him guilty of intoxication manslaughter.

Daniel P. Bone, 46, faces up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for causing the Sept. 5, 2004 death of Juan Ramon Flores.

The wreck occurred on U.S. 59 three miles east of Goliad.

Bone was driving a company pickup and headed to work at an oilfield site when he began to enter Manahulla bridge and drifted into oncoming traffic.

Flores was pronounced dead on the scene.

Bone's truck ended on its side and Flores' pickup ended up sideways on the southbound lane of U.S. 59. A vehicle pulling a boat struck Flores' pickup, and a second pickup drove into the boat.

Bone was flown to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi where a blood test revealed he had a blood alcohol level of 0.09, .01 percent over the legal limit.

The jury deliberated 10 minutes on Nov. 2 before returning its guilty verdict.

District Attorney Michael Sheppard prosecuted the case. Assistant District Attorney Terry Breen assisted.

Micah Hatley and Brian Hrach of Victoria represented Bone.

  • Thank you for giving us the defense counsel, now we know who not to hire. As far the verdict, good. He needs to spend time in jail. To be fair, what kind of defense can you set up? NONE.
