A Department of Public Safety trooper attempted a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 59 late Wednesday afternoon, but the driver fled.

A chase with speeds of up to 138 mph ensued.

Victoria County Sheriff's Office received a call for assistance about 5:15 p.m. and entered near the intersection of U.S. 59 and U.S. 77, a sheriff's department spokesman said.

DPS in Refugio County set out spikes to stop the car.

The driver finally stopped in the median about a fourth of a mile north of the city of Refugio.

DPS troopers arrested the driver.

Additional information was not available Wednesday night.

  • BubbleHead and N796V,
PSST: CALL YOUR RABBIT RANGER COLLEAGUE.
THERE’S A DEAD BUCK ON 59 SOUTH BETWEEN PT. LAVACA AND BLOOMINGTON HI-WAY. BAD ACCIDENT.

  • BubbleHead and N796V YOU BOTH ARE FULL OF IT!!!

I SAW THIS PURSUIT FROM THE FIRST DPS AND S.O. CHARGER TO THE LAST VEHICLE WITH FLASHING LIGHTS OVER A 20 MINUTE SPAN. WHETHER ALL WE INVOLVED IN THE “ACTUAL CHASE” CAN BE DEBATED. I WAS TRAVELING NORTH ON 77. HOW MANY SPEEDING LEO VEHICLES FOLLOWED THE CHASE?

  • I commented on the other story, it sounded like there were jokes being cracked by the officers, and I didn't think any of this was funny. It was serious and deadly!

    You're welcome

  • Thank you, N4796V. As soon as I saw "..at least..twenty vehicles... going well over 100 MPH over 20 minute span." my BS meter pegged in the overload position. When someone is that far from the facts, one has to question whether there is a hidden agenda at play. In this case, the answer is fairly obvious.

  • Hey, Bubbleheadjones...I'll betcha a Whopper to a Big Mac that the cops had their overhead lights on as well as the siren. Turn on the flashing lights and chase as fast as you can go. I'll admit to being just a little surprised that they could make 138 mph without blowing up.

N4796V..."along with 2 DPS units and Texas Parks and Wildlife unit."

Parks and Wildlife???? A GAME WARDEN thought the DPS and Sheriff's deputies needed help with this guy?

  • TMICHAELSMOUSTACHE:
YOU DID NOT OBSERVE AT LEAST TWENTY VEHICLES pursuing the offender. Only 4 VCSO vehicles were involved in the actual chase, along with 2 DPS units and Texas Parks and Wildlife unit.
Please, there is enough exaggeration as it is on this blog.THE DRIVER stole the BMW off a car lot in Houston, and the "LOJACK" device onboard tracked the car. Now-MY QUESTION- WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG FOR THIS INDIVIDUAL TO BE CAUGHT AFTER GOING THROUGH FORT BEND, WHARTON, AND JACKSON COUNTIES BEFORE BEING SPOTTED BY A LOCAL DPS OFFICER?
No drug money or illegals were involved. JUST STUPIDITY on the driver's part. WE CAN ONLY SURMISE what her true intentions were.

  • Really Zorro? Turn on your police scanner and listen to how busy they are...Well VPD that is, not sure about VCSO and DPS.

When are you going to take off the mask?

  • Too many officers with too little to do. Law enforcement has become a jobs program always looking for ways to justify their extravagance.

  • Good grief, this pursuit looked like an old Aggie Joke:
How many VCSO and DPS vehicles does it take to catch up with ONE car.And it was brought to a screeching halt in Refugio County.

This chase looked like a Shriner’s parade. I witnessed at least than twenty VCSO and DPS vehicles headed south on 77 into Refugio County going well over 100 MPH over 20 minute span. A VCSO and DPS chase policy is needed before someone gets hurt.

I thought the Mexicans had invaded Refugio.
