I don't know of any marketing. I've never seen any type of marketing other than the university.

Sara Newman, Victoria, purchasing director

No, when I'm in Houston I don't see commercials about Victoria. I don't see billboards advertising Victoria.

Kenneth Newman, Meyersville, oilfield manager

A: "Below average. You come here because you have relatives or friends. You don't come here to visit."

- Robert Alvarez, Victoria, retired hotel owner

A: "I think probably they could do a little more. They're not doing a whole lot. I think that new complex will help to bring tourism."

- Marjorie Allums, Edna, retired nurse

  • Before I lived in Victoria I'd make trips here every few months mainly to visit the zoo and then on to La Bahia in Goliad or do a little shopping. This was about a 45 minute trip. More frequently I would go to Houston/First Colony which was about the same distance, but had more to offer in regards to shopping. I would think, at least at this point, that Victoria attracts shoppers from the outlying areas more so than your typical tourist.

  • I dont understand the want to make Victoria a tourist town...you dont need tourists to make money, you need businesses...and not just fast food businesses!

  • What's to promote? A rundown park frequented by homosexuals and gang members; an under funded and poorly located zoo; a few old houses; a baseball complex built in a poor location that as a result cannot attract money-making tournements (sic); or maybe the undersized, outdated community center? I could go on, but why bother?
