Industrial High School and Ganado High School bands competed in the state level of the UIL Marching Band State Contest at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Nov. 2.
Industrial High School tied for 10th place in the 2A division preliminary round, said Stephen Henry, band director.
The band has been to state before, having placed 14th overall in 2007, Henry said.
"I couldn't be more proud of them for all the work they did," Henry said. "They had a great performance at state."
The Ganado High School band placed 16th in the 1A division preliminary round. It's the first time the band had advanced to state in 25 years, said band director Patrick Flaniken.
"It's our first trip to this kind of a venue, and we hope to do it again when UIL allows us to, which will be in two years," Flaniken said. "I'm very proud of the kids for advancing this far."

Good experience to compete, no matter what the outcome. If a band goes out there and does the very best, everyone should be proud. Sure, everyone would love to come home with the honor of first place, but performing in front of judges helps to pave the way for "trying" in tough situations throughout the students' lives.
