Editor, the Advocate:

I am a senior at Memorial High Schoo, and I have a lot of disagreements with the Victoria Independent School District dress code.

My main disagreement is with guys and earrings. I personally think it is ridiculous that they are not allowed to wear earrings considering men were the first to wear them. What is the big deal?

I can understand the big giant gauges, but not studs, which should be allowed. I don't quite understand how that is distracting. I just think the school is using it as another way to control us. Thanks for listening.

  • Rules and laws that are seen by the majority as being punitive and unreasonable, are breeding grounds for contempt and rebellion.

  • The reason they do restrict certain items is because studies how that students perform better when they are required to dress in a more professional manner. I am not saying I agree with the dress code, but I am just informing you that there has been studies and research that justify the districts dress code.
