Editor, the Advocate:
I am a senior at Memorial High Schoo, and I have a lot of disagreements with the Victoria Independent School District dress code.
My main disagreement is with guys and earrings. I personally think it is ridiculous that they are not allowed to wear earrings considering men were the first to wear them. What is the big deal?
I can understand the big giant gauges, but not studs, which should be allowed. I don't quite understand how that is distracting. I just think the school is using it as another way to control us. Thanks for listening.

Rules and laws that are seen by the majority as being punitive and unreasonable, are breeding grounds for contempt and rebellion.
November 12, 2009 at 2:44 p.m.The reason they do restrict certain items is because studies how that students perform better when they are required to dress in a more professional manner. I am not saying I agree with the dress code, but I am just informing you that there has been studies and research that justify the districts dress code.
