Abortion is killing a person

Editor, the Advocate:

I have come to realize that more and more teens are becoming pregnant. As a senior at Memorial High School, I walk around school and see all the pregnant girls. It's hard these days to have a child and complete school on time. But that doesn't give you the right to kill an innocent baby that hasn't had a chance to live.

Every day in the newspapers, you read about killings and murders, but why is it OK to kill an unborn baby but yet a crime to kill a person?

I believe that if you think you're responsible enough to do the deed, then you should be able to take on the responsibility of motherhood. I know a couple of people who have an abortion, but I don't think it was right of them. If you have the nerve to kill an innocent baby, then I don't think you deserve to experience motherhood.

  • Some people have found that adopting here in the US is too brutal for all involved. The birth mother can change her mind, sometimes up to a year, and the real family (adoptive parents and child) are ripped apart. So if people have money, they go to other countries and bring back the babies/children who are put up for adoption over there.

  • tnt...without getting into another argument about pro/anti-choice, are there REALLY many couples who are wanting to adopt? There are a lot of kids who need someone to adopt them and it ain't happening. I'm thinkin' that there might be many people who are looking to adopt HEALTHY, white, infants. The kids who aren't perfectly healthy, who aren't white and are older, ie. toddlers and above, seem to be waiting and waiting and waiting and.....

  • Their are a lot of mothers that should not be moms, but that does not give them a right to be judge and jury and kill their mistake. There are many couples that are looking to adopt who cannot have their own. Our President says it's o.k. to kill the unborn, but says we are brutalizing the terrorist that kill thousands. Kids having kids is a core problem with parenthood. I firmly believe in the death penalty, the accused had a choice, the unborn child does not.

  • I am not an alumnus of Memorial High School yet I read about about prison sentencing a lot also. Usually I am sitting, sometimes standing, rarely walking, as reading while walking makes me ill.

  • Politico..."why is it OK to kill a prisoner but a crime to kill a free man?"

Uhhh, because the LAW prescribes death for certain crimes if a jury convicts and then recommends the ultimate penalty. Murder is the unlawful taking of a life. Capital punishment is the LAWFUL taking of life. There IS a difference.

  • Capital punishment is killing a person.

I have come to realize that more and more people are being executed. As an alumnus of Memorial High School, I walk around and read about prison sentencing. Its hard these days to forgive and rehabilitate inmates, as is the goal of the US prison system. This doesn't give us the right to execute them before they get the chance to change themselves.

Everyday in the newspapers, you read about killings and murders, but why is it OK to kill a prisoner but a crime to kill a free man?
